Good evening,
My father-in-law has owned a Praktica LTL3 for a number of years, and
is reluctant to purchase a new digital camera because he likes his
Praktica. The problem is that the vertical shutter only opens
half-way, so one half of his pictures look great, but the other half is
black.
Where can this camera be sent for reliable service, and is it going to
cost more to repair than buying a good digital camera?
Thanks in advance,
Isaac Grover, Owner

I don't know about service costs, but I suspect it will be cheaper to
buy another LTL or MTL from ebay. Plenty to choose from, often sell for
next to nothing.

Is it just with flash pictures? If it is, then it sounds as if the
flash synchronisation is broken, or maybe he's just using too fast a
shutter speed (so half the frame is cutoff as the flash isn't on when
some of the shutter's open).
Tell him to try taking a flash picture at a 1/30th sec shutter speed
and see if that makes a difference.

I never knew the Praktica LTL3 was a digital SLR.
It must have been *years* ahead of its time ...
