Has any one tried out any of the Pentax Digital SLRs and how do the old
style lenses from say a Pentax SF1 work on the new Digital Models

Thanks Don

Depends what you mean by "new".  :-)

My *1stDS works just fine with any "old" Pentax AF lens - and with all my
pre-AF Pentax lenses, too.

I would expect the DL and anything newer would too.

Yes they will all work and meter, some manually, if the SP1 is an S mount
(screw in type) then you will need an adapter and it will then work fine in
full manual mode of couse. With the plder lenses with manual focus the focus
indicator will indicate when you are in focus, it is really great.

The SF1 has the Kaf mount, with autofocus and happy multi-metering
action. A lens contemporary to it (F, FA) would be fine on an
*istD(S/L).

The A-series lenses work as long as you put their aperture at the A
setting, for automatic. You have to change the aperture on the camera
rather than the lens.

Older K-mount lenses (and non-Pentax variants) have other caveats, which
the interested reader can discover here: <http://www.mile23.com/node/26>

My *istD works with the only manual lens I've tried, a Zenitor 16mm
fisheye. I'm not happy with the results yet, but that turns out to be
because the lens needs adjustment, not the camera.

For results with other lenses, check my web site,
www.charlieselfonline.com. Most of those shots were taken with the D,
using the 16-45mm kit lens, but some were shot with a Sigma 18-70mm.

The camera is still capable of better work than I can do. WIth luck,
the coming months will change that.

I have the Pentax *ist D and the only AF lens I have is the DA 14mm f:2.8
(nice lens) All my other lenses are manual focus Pentax-K or Pentax-M non A
series lenses. The *ist DS, DL, and *ist DS2 will all use stop-down metering
mode, each however has a different menu location to select the "metering
with none A lenses" mode.

Thanks for all of the interesting information on the Pentax Digital SLRs .
The Model that I want to get is  the 1stDL .
I would also like to know if my AF400 flash  will work with this camera.

Sorry the *ist DL won't work with the AF400 flash, Pentax limited the DL as
it was an entry level dSLR.. I believe you can get basic functions with the
*ist DS/DS2 but the AF400 flash doesn't have the P-TTL features.
