Thanks.  All I really meant to do was celebrate the arrival (6 weeks after
its creation?) of this newsgroup... I wonder how much of the Internet still
doesn't have it.

I'll tell you, my ISP, Verizon, only picked up this News Group 4 months ago or so.  I am
glad they did.

That's when it was created.  (I seem to recall it was October 1; not sure.)
You must have gotten it right when the creation command went out.  I only
got it today...

Very strange, usually a new site is propagated in less than 24 hours.

But -- because of a series of "newgroup" floods (which brought
news servers to their knees, as the news server software was not
designed for thousands of newsgroup messages at once), many news servers
(including mine) have automatic newsgroup creation turned off, and
newsgroup creation depends on me spotting the name of an interesting
newsgroup in the daily set of messages from the servers, and manually
creating the newsgroup.

I think that I will keep it this way, as I only get a partial
newsfeed (by choice) anyway.  I've only got one T1 line, and the
totality of usenet several years ago passed the bandwidth requirements
of two T1 lines. :-)

    Enjoy,
        DoN.

Sorry, I misunderstood you to mean website.  They usually propagate withing 24
hours (eg, a new IP + website name).

newsgroups are in worldwide dissarray.  My ISP does not carry this ng, I post
via an account that a friend set up elsewhere.

Cheers,
Alan.

Change your photo to where you hold the camera properly.

You mean with hand under the lens?  Hmmm... I'll consider it.  That was a
very lightweight camera and lens...

A good point, but the 'proper holding technique' provides stability in three
ways ... a) it relieves the weight from the other hand (share the load) and b)
it helps get that left elbow tucked in.  c) As the weight is relieved somewhat
from the right hand, it allows a gentler and more even pressure on the shutter
... less blur.

You look less goofy too.

Cheers,
Alan.

Agreed -- with most cameras.  There was one SLR which was
designed to be held the way he was holding his in the photo.  That was
the Zeiss Ikon Contaflex Super, which had a pair of raised lumps on the
focusing ring (very close to the body), positioned for a finger from
each hand to alternate in adjusting the focus.

Of course -- it was not a real interchangeable lens camera --
only the front element was interchangeable with a single wide-angle and
a single telephoto replacement.

That was my first SLR -- but I quickly learned better with later
cameras -- where the left hand not only supports the lens, but is
positioned to adjust the aperture ring (if not handled automatically),
the focus ring (if no autofocus), and the zoom (if present).

    Enjoy,
        DoN.
