In doing a search for a Canon angle finder for my Canon D60 (EOS) camera, I
came across a few Chinese clones of the Canon brand, for about half the
price of the Canon branded unit.

Have any of you ever purchased a Chinese clone of this angle finder?  If so,
which brand, and what do you think of its quality, etc.?

thanks

Mike

There are two angle finders for Canon, Anglefinder 'B' and 'C'.  The 'C'
has switchable magnification, I think 2.5x, the 'B' is straight through.

I purchased the 1x fixed magnification angle finder...I have an
original Olympus variable mag finger (1.25x - 2.5x) for my film 35mm
OM-1/OM-4 system and have found that I never used the 2.5x.  I just
don't shoot in situations where I need that higher mag.  So I decided
to get the fixed mag finder for my 20D, and find I am perfectly happy
with that.  Quite a bit less expensive than the unit with variable mag.

What brand did you purchase?  and where?

thanks

Mike,

Can you tell us more about the Chinese clone of the Canon brand?
Are they lenses, or just a few items?

Do they have a website?

If you give us a little more information, we may be able to figure
something out about them?

Thanks,

roland

If you do a search on e-bay for "canon angle finder", you will find several
chinese clones listed.

they look a lot like the canon angle finders, but have slightly different
magnification ratios.

My question, and my research,  only applies to angle finders (type c for
canon EOS).

A Canon angle finder was one of the first accessories I got, partly
because I'd used Olympus' equivalent extensively with my OMs, partly
because I found a used one in a local shop, near-mint, at half the new
price less another 10% during a new year promotion. The carrycase is
marked "made in Japan" but the finder itself is marked "made in China":
make of this what you will. It doesn't feel quite as robust as the
Olympus unit, and the eyepiece adjustment is looser, but so far it's
been up to the job.

If there are Chinese knock-offs, one might as well buy one:  the Canon
version of the "C" finder I have isn't the finest piece of optical
equipment I own.  It does the job of solving nasty viewing geometry
problems, but the view isn't as nice as one would hope.
