Hi all

I want to get back into using SLR's (like I did in the good old days!).

I have a choice between an OM101 and an EOS1000F.

It willl be mostly used for taking pictures of fast moving vehicles - can
anyone tell me which would be the better of these 2 cameras please.

Thanks

Simon

The EOS 1000F has autofocus, but the OM101 does not.  Instead, it has
something Olympus called "Power Focus", where the lens is focused
manually with a dial on the back of the camera rather than by turning
a focusing ring on the lens.  Together with the autofocus OM707, it
wasn't a commercial success, and it caused Olympus to abandon the
autofocus 35mm SLR market altogether.

The EOS 1000F offers manual as well as automatic exposure.  The OM101
doesn't offer manual exposure except with an adapter, available as an
accessory.

The EOS 1000F accepts a huge range of autofocus lenses from Canon and
several independent makers.  Canon's USM lenses focus quickly and are
ideal for your purposes.  When used in power focus mode, the OM101
will accept Olympus Zuiko autofocus and power focus lenses, but these
are extremely hard to find.  In manual focus mode, you can use any
Olympus Zuiko lens.  A wide selection are available used, plus there
is a limited selection of independent brands in the OM mount.

A brief description of the OM101 is available here:

Unless there is a particular reason why you would prefer Olympus, you
should buy the Canon. It is a much better camera, capable of far more.

There is a huge selection of Canon EOS bodies available used, often at
bargain prices, so you are not necessarily limited to this model,
which was very much an entry-level camera.  Whilst it is very capable,
there are better/more durable models available at excellent prices.

Sorry, I should have said "it caused Olympus to abandon the
interchangeable-lens autofocus market".

No problem.

The 35mm group is dying anyway.  :-(
