What did he say? That the 350D is pretty much like a Ford? I am so confused.

Oh yeah.

You're in good company. Not because of your opinion regarding the kit
lens, but becasue of your long winded explanation and mistaken
assumptions about the character of people in this group.

The "size" is a problem that I have found with many cameras, and not just in
the dSLR lineups. I never embraced the original Oly's, because I could not
hold the little hummer, especailly with a WA lens on it. Many times my back
wished I'd gone with the OM-x, instead of the Nikon F2's, but I can still
walk, with a lot of help.
I find my newish D70 a bit on the small side, and outfitted an earlier CP5700
with a battery pack, primarily to add to the bulk a bit, and have it fit my
hand. With a long lens, the D70 seems to want to fall forward.

Angus, in the US, there is a somewhat tired old saw, that basically states, "
those who can, do, those who cannot, teach... " In the world of photography,
I'd change that a bit to something like, "those who can, do, those who cannot,
cite reviews... " The UK is NOT alone in that respect. While I do not know
either your camera, or your lens, I have great respect for products Canon,
though I've owned and used Nikons form the SP-105 days, only missing a few
models along the way. I know many working pros in all genres of photography,
who use Canon, and I've never heard an unkind word about their gear, except
for an ex-partner, who traded Nikon system for Oly, then Pentax, then Canon,
then Contax. He also had 3 Contax RTS's go bad on one job, and one, after
being refurbed by the factory, fall apart in the rep's hand, right in the
middle of our studio.
It sounds like you have wrung this sucker out, and if YOU are satisfied with
it for your uses, I'd say go with it, regardless of what someone can cite from
the Web, especially if the review is from one, who only photographs accutance
charts and the like.

That was to prevent highlanders from getting hopped up on whiskey and
raiding the lowlands. Give us a break!
