I think I prefer the Olympus-Panasonic,
KM-Sony thing to outright buy outs.
How would you like to wake up one morning
to read Nikon was now owned by Toshiba?

Or Rolls Royce owned by Volkswagon :(((

How the enthusists groaned in dissapproval when Ford bought Jaguar followed
closely by their aquisition of Aston Martin...and now Jags are reliable and
Astons are seriously diserable and Aston are again struggling to keep up
with demand..as opposed to struggling to stay afloat as they had for the
previous 40 years and through 10 owners.

How other died in the wool types cringed when BMW bought Bentley (event
though Bentley had been using BMW power plants for a number of  years at
that time) and now Bentley can't build em fast enough to keep up with demand

So er.... Whatever!

And yes I am a Canon user I just prefer the control layout on EOS cameras to
Nikons. Both systems are great, I just get on with Canons a bit easier is
all.

RollsRoyce is BMW with big sale problems. Bentley is in fact Volkswagen
with very good sales ;-)

Times have changed.

That's a new one!

I think you will find that the Rolls-Royce car brand is owned by BMW.

All the Rolls-Royce technology, the Rolls-Royce factory in Crewe, the
Rolls-Royce workforce and their expertise were purchased by the
Volkswagen Group, together with the Bentley brand name.

After completing the purchase, VW were astonished to discover that the
Rolls-Royce brand name was not theirs.  Apparently it had been
acquired by BMW in the 1970s, and was merely licensed to Vickers, the
owners of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley operation, until they sold the
business to Volkswagen.

BMW then set up a new factory in Sussex to make Rolls-Royce cars.  The
factory is about 200 miles from the original factory in Crewe.  The
BMW-based cars made their bear no resemblance to previous Rolls-Royce
products - except for the same brand name.

Bentley have gone from strength to strength under VW ownership, with
the Crewe factory operating at full capacity.  There is the prospect
of some assembly of Bentley cars at the VW factory in Dresden, Germany
to cope with the high demand.

Meanwhile, the BMW Rolls-Royce operation has had disappointing sales.

You'll see MOST companies would rather partner than buy-out because nobody
wants to assume another company's debt.  In the case of a "buy-out", they'd
rather just purchase the assets (that can include the company name) and
avoid any liability.
