Need prints -- good and fast

Sheldon - 19 Jul 2005 18:14 GMT I may need some prints for a show rather quickly, but I also need them to be of high or very good quality. I guess I could print them myself, but I can't get any larger than 8x10.
Any suggestions?

Since using the services of a local professional lab are clearly out of the question -- you would already have considered as much for your potential hypothetical and rejected it for reasons only you alone know -- and www.google.com has, at least for the purposes of your hypothetical, crashed beyond all hope of repair then I guess your choices are indeed limited to standing on a street corner and asking random passers-by for advice.
"Hey buddy, spare some time on a large format printer?"
Good luck!
Sheldon - 19 Jul 2005 20:44 GMT Point well taken.

I just reread your answer. Nevermind, you are one of the people who just likes to spout off.

Or maybe the poster asked a vague, under-specified, and ill-conditioned question and you haven't the reading comprehension skills to notice it?
> which come to think of it unless you just > like to hear yourself spout off, it's what we all come here for. Really? And who voted you Grand Poobah of r.p.d.slr-systems? And since you are being a stickler for proper form and technique, maybe you can cite the chapter and verse of the sacred Newsgroup Charter that allows discussion about photo-labs in an "slr systems" newsgroup?
> I just reread your answer. The OP probably needed to read it once to figure out what I was saying (he may not have liked the package it came in, but the message was clearly received). You, on the other hand needed to read it twice ... and still missed the point.
QED: you are a half-wit.

Oh yeah, I forgot it was a forum for slagging the UK government, telling new posters to "google it", and discussing the merits of cell phone use while driving. My mistake.

My mistake. Your mistake is forgetting that _you_ were the one yelling at _me_ re: "why 'we' are here" in r.p.d.slr-systems. So congratulations are in order: you are no longer a half-wit. You are now either (a) a disingenuous twit or (b) an idiot. Your choice.

It would have been > better had you just not said a word at all. Hm. My mother died a long time ago. And even if she was alive, her name wasn't "Thomas T Veldhouse". So why do you care whether or not I have "shown [myself] to be a complete a.s"?
Nevertheless, if you do care, thanks oh so much. But I recommend you just put me in your killfile so my frank, plain, speaking doesn't offend your sensibilties any further. After all, you don't want to make an a.s of yourself, right?

Sheldon - 19 Jul 2005 20:48 GMT 11x14 to 16x20. Local prices here are outrageous. I live at a resort with extremely high commercial rents and prices to match Most of the locals drive 45mi (one way) to get underwear, and the gas prices here are already over $3 Unless I want to wind up in the poor farm, I'll have to order my frames over the Net, too. Just looking for a quality web service.

Then probably the only answer is to do it yourself, it is very cost effective for the larger sizes, one of the "cheaper" A3 Canons or Epsons will do what you want.

The only online print-house that I've dealt with personally is www.whcc.com, and they've done terrific work for me at very competitive rates. It's normally 1-2 days in house, then 2-day shipping, but if you're willing to pay, they can do rush orders and overnight shipping.

Jack Rosier - 20 Jul 2005 02:31 GMT I've had good results at www.fotki.com Their prices are low and the prints I've received, both 8x10" and 11 x 14" seem to be very good quality. They have got my three recent orders to me by regular mail in about a week. I don't recall if they offer faster service as I've never needed it.

While I've been finding this thread to be very entertaining, it hasn't don't much for me except for the last three posters (thank you). And for those who just say "Google it," that's how you wind up buying a camera from a dealer who rips you off and never gives you the "deal" you think you are going to get.

For the type of service Mpix gives, you might also consider Adorama: <http://www.adoramapix.com> . I've only used Mpix for B&W, so I can't really compare the two, but they're doing the same kind of work at similar prices.
