hi all. can users of the CANON REBEL XT  do a test for me please and let me
know the results. heres the test take a few indoor and outdoor photos on
full auto mode and let me know if the ISO changes in auto mode or is it a
fix ISO in auto mode. heres why i ask for this help test. in auto mode my xt
only takes photos at ISO 400 indoor or outdoor. i can fix that in manual
mode but if my wife uses the camera she only use auto mode and all the
photos shot in any auto mode comes out very dark. i am going to get the
camera exchange next week but wanted to know if thats was the problem with
the camera and thats why the photos are very dark in all of the auto modes.
you guys can save me the trip and trouble of going to get it exchange if
thats not the problem.

thank you all for helping out.

Took a look at some test photos of sunny snow scenes I took in Auto mode
right after I got my XT. The ISO was 400 for telephoto shots, and 200
for wide angle shots.

Auto Mode doesn't come close to achieving the same consistent results as
would be expected on a point 'nd shoot camera. While it's adequate for
shooting scenery, it's not very consistent for indoor stuff. The default
multi-point auto focus system seldom picks the correct focus points,
which in turn will provide rather random exposure levels.

Forget about the Auto mode, and go witn Program mode with single point
centre focus. Exposure will be based upon the single point. While I
initially experienced rather unpredictable results with Auto mode, after
switching to Program and sometimes AV or TV modes, and single point
focus, I haven't had any further problems.

Flash is consistently underexposed, and requires compensation to be
bumped up about 2/3 to 1 stop.

How can that be when the metering is evaluative 35-zone in auto mode?

How can that be when the XT doesn't have spot metering?

That's a fact.

According to the UK Canon EOS Magazine, June 2005, p30-31, in an article on
these things, it says that when an off-centre focus point is selected, the
metering bias also shifts (regardless of the independent meter setting). Any
of this is only applicable to the Advanced setting modes.
