I received an interesting email from Freestyle today,
They state outright that their Arista line of films and papers is made
by Ilford, and identical to the current Ilford line.

They appear to be selling off the last of the Arista branded stuff; it
is cheaper than their Ilford, so check it out:

Probably in an effort to appease the new Ilford management.

They've dumped Ilford for Kentmere paper and somebody else for film. They
dumped Forte for Foma.

I seem to believe Freestyle sells more B&W photo paper than B&H.

To clarify, the preceding post applies only to Freestyle's Arista line.
Arista II, Arista EDU and Arista PRO products *ARE NOT* manufactured by
Ilford.

It was never much of a secret that Arista film was made by
Ilford. Arista paper was not. I am pretty sure it was
Kentmere but don't know for certain. Ilford has decided not
to sell it regular products for rebranding so current Arista
film is not made by them. Actually, I think there are at
least two and maybe three suppliers. Currently, Freestyle
sells about three makes of papers under the general Arista
name. Some is Kentmere, and is good stuff, I've been using
it. Some is made in Czeckoslovakia, some in Hungary.
Freestyle still caters to the 'wet' photographer although a
large part of the Hollywood store is made over to digital.
At least its not pushed into a corner as it is at Calumet.
Kentmere, BTW, is a very old English company. Freestyle
carries Kentmere paper both under its house brand and as
Kentmere. Kentmere is privately held so has had an easier
time adjusting to the shrinking market, they are likely to
remain in business for some time.
Ilford papers are among the most expensive but they are
trying hard to maintain a line for us traditional
photographers and I think should be supported.

Arista claims that some papers were Ilford.  here is a copy of the email:

The Secret Is Out! Arista Brand Film and Paper was manufactured by Ilford/
We knew that educators and students needed to get the best value for their money, and Ilford knew it too.
That's why Freestyle and Ilford teamed together to bring top-quality products to teachers and schools at
terrific prices. Due to contractual obligations, we could not disclose the manufacturer as Ilford, but now
the secret is out and all remaining Arista black and white products are available at their original prices
until sold out. If you prefer to pay more for the branded product....fine, but if you want the SAME PRODUCT
for less, then Arista is your BEST VALUE! But Hurry... It is only available while supplies last!

My interpretation:

o Freestyle had Ilford supply private label product.  Under the
agreement they could not say it was Ilford - otherwise Arista
would cut into Ilford branded product.

o Ilford will no longer supply private label, breaking
the contract with Freestyle: Ilford doesn't supply Arista
& and Freestyle doesn't have to keep schtum.

o Freestyle has a heap of Ilford [er Arista] stuff to sell

o Freestyle 'rebrands' [not the right word, but can't
think of one] Arista as Ilford in order to sell off the old stock
  quickly.

Scott Griswold was a big fan of Arista Classic. He stated that he was
told it was Galerie by an employee at Freestyle. He started using
while settling a lawsuit with Kodak. Part of their settlement was a
truck load of Elite. He seemed to prefer the Arista Classic to Elite.
