Hi, I recently bought a used Super Chromega D Dichroic II head and
realized that I need to repair or replace the foam that cushions the
head from the negative stage. It's cracking and wearing out in some
places. Does anyone have any ideas about how to repair this. Are such
parts available, if not would something like weatherstripping or the
foam from a mousepad suffice? Any other ideas are welcome.
thanks in advance

After the long weekend they'll likely be able to get you any parts. Or to
do the work for you.

You can buy from Omega direct, the foam cost is some ridiculous sum
like $25.00 plus shipping but has self adhesive that you peel and stick.

Fargo Enterprises sells urethane foam for light seals. Urethane
foam will either rot or turn to goo given time. It rots faster
in high humidity and probably a bad choice for darkrooms.
Grey foam weatherstripping stays 'alive' for a long time and will
make a good-enough light seal.
The longest lasting seals are made from synthetic microfibers:
velvets and knitting yarn. I don't know if ufibre velvet has a
thick enough pile to fill the gap between head and carrier though.
When I had an Omega I aligned as well as I could and used a black
fabric skirt around the bottom of the head to minimize the light
leakage.

Per Harry at Classic Enlargers, I used 3/4" wide, 1/2" thick weatherstripping
foam from the hardware store on my D5. The 1/2" thick faom is quite soft,
squashes down nicely & seals well. Counting cleaning off the old foam &
adhesive residue it took me all of 5 minutes.
