I paid $125 for a used Technal dry-mount press with a surface area of
12x15 inches. However I can mount a 16x20" print by doing it in sections.
Getting a larger, used Seal will run you several hundred.

New? 1,700.00 USD
Brands are Seal or Bogen.

Very, very variable: $1,200 and up if new. Free to $500 if used.
Although indestructible, schools manage to destruct them. Inquire
about the smoothness and cleanliness of the platen and the condition
of the foam rubber pad.

Large prints are mounted in sections. A Seal "Jumbo 150" will
mount a 20x24". Larger ones will mount in one swell foop and
this speeds up production in frame shops.

Seal/Beinfang is the high priced spread. Technal the low.

The answer depends on what you can buy one for, how much the lab
charges for mounting and how many prints/year you are going to mount.
A framing shop will probably be cheaper than a pro-lab. If you do
it yourself don't forget the cost of mount tissue, release paper and
mounting board.

Thank you all for a great start. I'll start asking around and checking
e-bay.
Cheers!

Dunno about eBay; keep in mind these are fairly heavy beasts, so even a cheap
buy is gonna cost you for shipping.
I picked up my old working Seal (bigger than what you're looking for) for
practically nothing--$40, if I remember correctly--at a local recycled-goods
store. Look in such places, or used photo supply stores if any exist around
you, or in local shopper papers or craigslist.

It's a good guess that one of two things is going to happen in the
coming days and weeks: Either Bolton goes down—-or we start learning
a lot of unpleasant things about Sen. George Voinovich.

And I would include a basic matte cutter such as a Logan.
BTW, I like the Seal Masterpiece - $4,295.95

I have a Seal Jumbo but frankly I think I'd look at the PVA glue that Light
Imporessions has available.

I bought a used 16x20 Technal dry mount press from a friend years ago for
$200. The guy had it in his garage for ages so he just wanted to get rid of
it. Overall it was normally selling for about $300 at the time. I'm sure if
you look at Craigslist or somewhere you can get one cheap.
