apr705 from Lloyd Erlick,

I've never been clear about whether Maco makes
photosensitive goods or just markets.

Someone on rpd remarked, "Maco make an ortho film..."

But is it true? I think they sell materials made by
Kentmere and others.

regards,

Hello,

Was that me that made that comment? I said it because I have some Maco
ortho25 film in my freezer. And I've used some Maco 820 Infrared film
before. Of course, this doesn't mean that they actually MAKE the film,
but I think they do... I seem to remember reading something about the
company once... But now I'm dealing with half remembered facts, so I'll
stop now.

Simon.

AFAIK Maco _makes_ film.
There is Maco IR and some other films sold under its own brand; and
now the Rollei R3 is also (I think) made by Maco.

I'm afraid not.  Maco does not make film, i.e. they don't own film
coating equipment. They buy film from manufactureres and re-sell it,
just as Rollei does. Check some of the threads on apug.org . Edward
Zimmermann wrote extensively (and knowledgably) about the situation.

I'm not sure why whether they make the film or re-sell it matters from a
film user's perspective.  I've used some of the Maco IR film in 120, and
I don't care who really made it, it's pretty neat stuff.

Nope. They pay others to do it for them - partially following their
recipe, but most is just another way of "private labelling".

The Rollei film is a Maco breed - it´s close to their 400ASA film,
both derive from a Traffic surveillance film and are made by a xray
film coater in Berlin, confection is done in other places (like
Hungary and Croatia).

The IR is -like most other films- probably made by Fotokemika.

The R3 is confectioned by Tura Film in Dueren, Germany.

That used to be true for 35mm - not 120 and sheet film, those were/are
cut abroad. And judging from a few indicators they may have abandoned
the shinking ship when Tura declared insolvency a month ago.

BTW, Tura employees continued to deny any knowledge of R3 being cut
and spooled at their plant.

Quite interesting, all that. Thanks for the info.

Who makes Cube 400? It got some good reviews about a year or so ago in
(I believe) Black and White magazine.

Read above, most likely that xray film plant in Berlin -

More likely Fotokemika as well.

Maco does not make (at least) IR or Cube films. [Probably ortho 25 as
well] They are only selling that under its own label.
