It's always bugged me when people put "foolish question" or, "dumb
question" in the header. If that's what you really think of your
question, don't ask it. Otherwise ask it without labeling it. You'll
feel better for it.

In common usage a "dumb question" is a question whose answer most readers
would find obvious, perhaps because the question concerned very elementary
matters or some very common practice.  By stating that the question is
"dumb" the asker is essentially asking for your patience.  Newsgroups vary
considerably in their tolerance of beginners and non-experts; this newsgroup
is extremely tolerant compared say to a cryptography group.
