b/w rotary processing - what works for you?

Hello all,

just processed some APX-100 in Xtol using my Jobo processor and I should
have become suspicious that the Xtol docs state 6.5 minutes as oppposed
to 9.75 for small-tank processing.

The negs are _very_ light.

Any tried and tested developer/time combinations for APX-25, APX-100 and
PAN-F in a Jobo?

A note on the background of the exercise: I've been having spots on my
negs, especially with slow films like APX-25 or Konica IR750 and I'd
like to try rotary processing as a possible remedy.

 Without pulling out my notes I think 15minutes for D-23 1:3. APX-100.
100ml of stock per roll of film. Or 400ml of 1:3.

     You might want to check the unblinkeye website. They had an article on
rotary and developer timing. The general impression I got was to test test
test. Some developers need shorter times. Some no change at all.

Ooops. That might be real cause. I've processed four rollfilms in 470 ml
Xtol 1:1. That's a mere 60 ml per roll.

 I don't know the capacity for Xtol but ya you need to make sure you have
enough developer. I guess you're using the 1500 tanks? The 2500 would need
more then 470 to just fill the tank right.

Yup. And they simply won't hold the required amount of stock solution
per film in rotary processing.

I should be common knowledge that one can use the second or third "helping"
of diluted developer to circumvent the smaller tanks' capacity.  Instead of
"dev-stop-fix" go "dev-dev-dev-stop-fix".  With  the longer development
times it works.

Rotary processing is not as good as hand processing using intermittent
agitation.

recommend 200ml (instead of the classic 100ml) of stock solution to
obtain proper density.

Times are given for rotary agitation. I usually find them on the
low-side but I use a diffusion enlarger.

That explains it. So, there is no point in running APX100 with Xtol in a
Jobo processor. The 1500 series tanks don't take the required quantity
of stock solution per film and there is no economy in chemicals to be
realised.

Back to manual processing, then. No real trouble since I was rather
aiming at using less chemicals. Loading and cleaning the processor is so
much work that manual tank processing is by far the easier method.

Still doesn't solve the problem with the spots I've been having on
APX-25 and Konica IR750. They look as if there had been isolated air
bubbles on the film during development. Never occured with faster film.
