I had quite a good time with Kodak Verichrome-pan 125 + PMK. I miss that since VP is discontinued. I like it with Rodinal 1+150+standing too. Now I'm back to the BW darkroom, after a not so successful wondering about the film scanner + digital printer. For various convenience reasons, I choose to stick with the Pyrocat-HD and high diluted rodinal + rare agitation. I have got a bunch of Tmax-400 and FP-125 as the media, but am was wondering if I missed other interesting films that I should not miss. For ISO-400 and pushable beyond that, anyone has expereince with Delta 400 with either the PyrocatHD, or Rodinal that is significantly better than Tmax 400? In which sense? For ISO 100, same developers, anyone has experiences with both Delta 100 and Tmax 100, and care to describe your observations? Last, I've read a lot praise about the Pan F 50, but have never seen and examples yet. The general observation is, it's far less popular than, say, FP-125. My impression is it's not really a fine grain film, even though a low ISO. It also seems lack of plausible tonal or gradation that worth to mension. Any reason that I should give it a try too? explain it please. I'd like to keep only two or sometihng films and get to know how to get the most of them. One should be ISO 400 and can be pushed, and one of ISO-100 or "low" speed. The film size I'm shooting is mostly 24mm x 65mm, 6x6, and 6x7. I'm partial to Tmax-100 developed in the Tmax developer (Tmax for roll and Tmax-rs for sheet) I use it diluted 1:9 one shot. Last spring I did some work with Delta-100 developed in Ilford's DDX. Again I diluted it 1:9 and used it one shot. PanF Plus is still listed on the Ilford website, plus several other "rumour mills" quote Ilford employees stating that it's not being discontinued as the big K discontinued Tech Pan so there'd be enough of a market for PanF plus. I certainly can't see any supply problems as most of my usual film sources do have it in stock. SignatureKeep working millions on welfare depend on you ------------------- fwp@deepthought.com As far as medium speed films go FP-4+, while not Verichrome Pan, is a very nice, user friendly film, TMax 100, Acros, APX are very much "new technology" films much finer grain but not as amiable more specialist than general purpose. I shoot black and white copywork on TMax 100 and everything else on TX and TXP all in 120 size. When I shoot 35mm black and white I use TMax 400, not because I love it but because someone gave me 4-100 ft rolls. Rather than push Delta 400 why not shoot Delta 3200, TMax 3200 or Fuji 1600? Rate them for normal usage 1250, 1000, 800 respectively and process in your soup of choice. Note that those EI's are more suitable to a high energy developer like Microphen, for Rodinal I'd be tempted to go more like 800, 800, 640 and have no idea where to rate for Pyrocat-HD.
