nov1804 from Lloyd Erlick, I came across this the other day. --le from The New Yorker magazine, Nov 1, 2004 issue (this quote contained in an advertisement by Saks Fifth Avenue): Richard Avedon, 1923-2004: "Ive worked out a series of nos. No to exquisite light, no to apparent compositions, no to the seduction of poses or narrative. And all these nos force me to the yes. I have a white background. I have the person Im interested in and the thing that happens between us." That pretty much tells the whole story. Sorry, I had to say it. Most "extraordinary" people simply get a good make up artist. When your work comes under the public discourse of photographic art, you can make a statement, too.
