I received two unopened gallons of FG7 as a gift. I've been using Rodinal
for years.  How would you characterize FG7? Is it an energetic developer
like Rodinal? Can it be highly diluted (say 1:50) and remain effective?

Here is a link with some good information. FG7 can be used a compensating
developer with or without Sodium Sulfite (purchased separately). 1:50 is a
bit high for FG7, but you could experiment with it.

Ansel Adams used FG7 (without sodium sulfite) for quite a while before he
settled on HC-110.

Transfer your FG-7 to glass bottles, get some marbles and it will last a long
time.
If kept in the plastic containers it will go bad sooner than later.
