The first MSDS I pulled up claimed

"May decompose explosively in the presence of alkalies."

Now does that mean in the developer I'm going to mix???  Potassium
Carbonate would be considered an alkalie wouldn't it? It's only going to be
a 3% solution but I'm not inclined to go boom.

They're probably referring to the dry powder form, not a solution.  I
have trouble crediting the possibility of a 3% solution exploding, and
if it did, I don't think it would be included in a developer formula.

If it worries you, try this:

Take up the smallest amount of the hydroxylamine sulfate solution
practical in a dropper, and drop a single drop into a small pile (a gram
or so) of potassium carbonate powder.  You'll likely see a reaction,
since the material will probably still decompose, but if it were to
explosively decompose, the quantity is such that it shouldn't be
hazardous.  Do wear goggles, though, just in case; it doesn't take much
of a reaction to scatter the carbonate granules around.

I may be a scwewy wabbit, but I'm not going to Alcatwaz!

Opinions expressed are my own -- take them for what they're worth
and don't expect them to be perfect.

Thanks. The thing that got to me was that the rest of the MSDS on that
website seemed very common sense based.

Hi Nick,

I use the powder all the time.  No problem.   I just add ingredients in
the order called for by the formula.

Thanks. I've got a scale coming. About $10+ shipping and supposedly
accurate to 0.1 grams. Hopefully it'll be okay. One step closer-))
