Potential screaming deal at a local recycled-goods store: several D2s that are
only missing lamphousi. Anyone know where I might get one of these, used?
Looked on *bay but found nothing.

I recommend a cold light head:
http://www.aristogrid.com/ Check ebay.
It's what I want. There are two versions for the D2.

This place might have one:
http://www.khbphotografix.com/

And this is thee* place for anything Omega-enlarger:
http://www.classic-enlargers.com/ experts. $70 for
a lamphouse. Some have filter drawers and some do
not. Filters can also be used via a bracket/holder
attached to the bottom of the lens-cone. AND ... the
lens cone MUST match the focal length of the lens.
There is a forum there where the owner Harry will
answer all your questions.

These enlargers entail lots of detail in parts and specs.
The D2 is what you want as newer, not necassarily a
DII which is very old tech, but cheap is cheap. D2's
have a crank (woohoo!).

Good luck,
Alex

And I forgot, make sure the enlarger comes with a set
of condenser lenses, the largest is for 4x5, about 5"
across the flat side. An enlarger may have a variable
condenser, best choice but those glass peices must
be there otherwise it might not be worth buying.

No need for condensors with the cold light head, it's a diffusion
system. I think the Minolta 45A system can be adapted to work as well
as many Beseler color heads.

I'd prefer the condenser. I've heard enough from people who installed
cold-light heads that are now gathering dust to not want to try them.

What have you heard? What don't they like about them?

Daid

tried to reply by Email but it came back.

I can probably help. And how screaming? Depending on things I can send a
lamphouse if you can part out an enlarger or two and send them to me. Where are
these enlargers?
An Omega D2 has gears and a rack for elevation. A DII does not.
