In the past two months I have placed orders with 3 companies on-line for
bulk 35 mm film. I'm still waiting! I'm not a bad person and I haven't
vented my spleen on any of these vendors...yet. I did receive some of the
items I ordered from 1 firm with no paperwork or any indication of lead-time
on back-orders. Is it just me or are ALL photo supply firms this
irresponsible? I know better than to apply anything but gentle pressure in
coercing these people to fulfill their obligations. Somebody, PLEASE refer
me to a good bulk film supplier that actually ships product in a timely
manor and has reasonable prices and does so consistently!

Sure. Which part of the great big blue ball do you want? Which film are
you looking for? Whats wrong with applying more then gentle pressure? If
they've billed you I'd be calling credit company to complain.

I whole heartly agree, cancel the order(s) and find someone that has the
stuff. No need to reward the faulty followupers.
You may contact Unique Photo. The other suggestion "get off your
tail" and call them.....sometimes actually talking with someone is a good
idea.

Oh, I have called! Sometimes every hour as I have been told that they would
get back to me and I say: "That's ok, I will call you back in an hour." I
have found that they don't call back with info and it's a blow-off. I'm
proud that I haven't been discourteous to them, just relentless. I have
never had this experience in any other industry.

I can't recall ever having these problems with them. Every company will
have some times they let customers down. It's a fact of life.

Who are the guilty parties? Some are notorious rip-off artists.

Indeed, provided he is quite sure of his facts, then Tom would be
doing us all a service in naming the companies.

It appears that there is a root company going by many different names but
the Econozone seems to be a common denominator.
http://store.yahoo.com/econozone/info.html I have placed orders with what
turns out to be 2 other dummy companies run by the same people. (Exact info
on my box at work) I had posted earlier here about them and received info
that they were unreliable or worse. oops!

If you paid by credit card call the CC company NOW and cancel. You sound
like you've waited longer then anybody should ever have to wait. Go to Ebay
and check the various companies that are Econozone. They all work out of the
same address and have the same phone number listed in the ad. You'll see a
pattern. They are okay for a while then they have a long list of no deliver
complaints. When this happens they start a new user ID so they can have
100% good feedback. It seems what is happening is they are selling stuff
they don't have in stock. Figuring they can keep you waiting until the stuff
shows up. I won't deal with anybody from that part of New York state.

You have been had, but that should not be much of a surprise by now.
For notorious rip-offs econozone may not be at to the top, the BBB doesn't
think much of them. But I'll bet the published prices are low ...
nobody sells film that cheap, not even econozone.
They go by several names/subsidiaries (all with the same address).
Searching turns up:
http://www.buggrit.com/wmpaul.html
Search for econocommerce:
http://www.bbbnewyork.org/businessreports/
There are only 3 (maybe 4) firms to deal with:
B&H in NYC
Freestyle in Hollywood
Calumet in Chicago
Adorama in NYC (some say OK, my experience differs)
And don't forget your local photo store! They need the business and
you get to have the stuff in your mitts before you pay.

Unless it is a very strange film, I would try Calumet or B&H.

It of course depend on what type of film you want but I know that here in
Chicago I've gone inot both Central Camera and Calumet camera and have bought
100' rolls of B&W film off the shelf from the stock. I know that Calumet is
always good about giving information of expected dilivery times.

http://bhphoto.com/ is my first choice.
Depending on what kind of film you want, you may find their prices for
imported single rolls to come out about the same per roll as bulk film.
Their web site will indicate when they don't have the particular film you
want in stock, and you can sign up to get an email when it comes back in.
I've always received the film I've ordered within a week using the cheapest
shipping.

Freestyle on the west coast provides good quick service. Porters has
also, although they are higher priced. And of course there is B&H,
Calumet, and I'm sure a few others. Dan
