adapt M39 to M25?

I have a Durst M606 whose lensboards are treaded for M25 lenses;  I
would like to be able to use a newer M39 lens on my enlarger.

Are step-down rings from 39mm to 25mm available, and where can they be
found?

I have a Durst M600 and faced the same issue.  The short answer is that
there are no rings that allow you to use M39 lenses on lensboards
threaded for M25 lens.  (There is an adapter that lets you use an M25
lens in a M39 board, but that's not what you are trying to do.)

You have two choices if you want to use M39 lenses:  1) you can try to
find an M39 lens board that will fit your enlarger.  These show up on eBay
for the M600 with some regularity, but you might have to wait several
weeks for one. Then you have to hope that no one else in you situation
needs the adapter. 2) You can go to a machinist and have the current lens
board enlarged, then threaded for M39.

Schneider still makes a Componon-S 50mm lens in the 25mm mount, if you
want to stay with the M25 lens board.  (Older Schneider Componons in
M25 mounts show up on eBay with some regularity, especially  the f4
50mm lens.  A good example of this lens will be a competent performer.)

Can you have a new board made? If it's just a flat board, then it's stone
simple to drill a new hole.

Try http://www.cambridgeworld.com/durst_old.htm and search. That is where I
got one for my M600.

If they have one listed send them an e-mail. The list you see if poorly
maintained and they may not have something listed in stock. On the other hand
they may have something not listed.

You will need to ask for their stock number, not the Durst part number.

Cost should be around $25 + S&H.

I have a lens board that does not fit my M600, it is bigger.  Measure yours,
in millimeters and I will check if mine is for the M606. It is marked "Durst
Lapla 39".

Unmunge my e-mail address and respond via e-mail.  aasainz at ix period netcom

Lapla is M601, M605 and (probably)M670 and M70

Yes, but has anyone yet tried it on the M606???

If it should work, then I'm in business!

Steve Grimes Inc will make you one. See:

Highly recommended.

UPDATE.

An e-mail to SRBFilm in Luton (www.srbfilm.co.uk) has informed me that
my only realistic option is to send my lensboard to them to be
re-bored and re-threaded.

**sigh**

it looks like I'm going to have to wait for an M25 lens to come my
way--Schneider still makes them, but there's none under US$350
according to a cursory search.

The only other thought is this:  how interchangeable are later Durst
lensboards with my M606?  I used M670's while I was at university, and
seemed to remember that the lensboards were metal, threaded, and
round.  If I could replace one of those for my present lensboard, I'd
be in business.

For now I'm making do with the old 50mm f/4.5 lens that came with the
enlarger, but as I bought it to enlarge from 6x6 negatives as well,
I'm a bit down....

Just a speculative thought--sorry I don't have a definitive answer--but
wouldn't it be possible to cobble up your own lensboard out of thin material,
say thin plywood or wood-composition board? Unless there's some kind of flange
around the edge, seems like this should be do-able. So far as the threaded
lens mount goes, maybe you could use a lens retaining ring?

The Bush administration should restrain itself from its imperial arrogance
that has so alienated countries around the world. Their contempt for the
United Nations in the dash to war with Iraq; their support of the coup in
Venezuela in April 2002, and the continuing hostility toward President
Chavez; the pressure on nations of the world to exempt the US from the
International Criminal Court, now joined by their contemptuous attitude
toward President Aristide must be halted. It is time for the people of the
USA to make this point clear even if the administration continues to walk
around with wax in its collective ears, with eyes closed, and ranting about
its version of the world as defined by Bush.

the lensboard is round, recessed somewhat, and has a flange which
grabs a set-screw, and made of metal. It's also very thin.

Sounds like the Septola [I think] Still current. Measure and I'll compare
to mine. I wouldn't call mine thin. How think do you mean?

I can't measure very exactly, but it's about 82mm in diameter, & it's
recessed a few mm.

There's no part name on it anywhere....

If it's only recessed a little then it's not the one I'm thinking about.

Also try emailing  Jobo in the US. They handle the smaller Durst enlargers.
I think from your description that the current boards should fit but better
to ask. If you go to the B&H website they have a picture of the Siriotub and
most of the other Durst boards. See if they look similar.

Thanks for the URL and the hint.  I've just e-mailed JOBO USA, and am
awaiting an answer.

I'm sorely tempted just to get the appropriate lensboard, but I'd be
really annoyed if it happened just to be a few millimetres off...!

Oh well.  I can always start putting pennies in a jar for a new 80mm
f/4 Componon-S.  in M-25.
