I have just purchased a Durst M606 enlarger, and intend to use it both
for 35mm and 6x6. The negative carrier is a glass carrier, with masks
that adjust with thumbwheels from 35mm to 6x6; on the bottom of the
condenser is a little metal 35mm mask that seems to be clipped on.
Being somewhat nervous about forcing the issue, how does one remove,
and then replace this 35mm mask, so that the enlarger may be used for
6x6?

Not sure about the 606 which is (illogically) older than 601's and 605's but
on the 601 and 605 the bright metal clip slides sideways and back to loosen
the mask(s), somewhat like a Grafloc back or the lensboard retainer on a
view camera.

I have not used my 606 in a while but I remember that it is different
thanthan the 601 and its sisters. I believe that the mask just pops off. If
you pull one side off gently, I think that it will come off easily.

There are two screws on either side of the condenser frame. Unscrew
each of them a bit and the 35mm mask can be easily pulled out. I just
tried it with mine to verify.

Oops, I'll have to modify my previous posting. I got the screws too
loose and the condenser came out of its frame. I had to spend 5
minutes juggling the screws, and the 4 springs on the back of the
condenser frame until I got it back together. Upon further
reflection, I think its best just to pull the mask out without
loosening the screws.
