Really!  I think Canon is going to have a winner with this one.  I hope they
make this much of an improvement on the 5D replacement.  My only wish is
Canon should drop that stupid print button they have on the 50D, it looks so
amateurish.  I'm so glad I didn't get rid of my Nikkor/EOS adapters!!

Gowds!  Look at those red roofs: all "plastified".
I'm sure tiles look just like that...

I'm really not convinced this is a byproduct of the dSLR/sensor as it looks
more likely to be poor quality glass.  I agree that the terracotta shingles
should be popping to life.  Let's hope that Canon introduces some improved
glass to take advantage of these new bodies.

Let's hope so. Not holding my breath at the moment,
but I'll gladly wait until the first formal reviews
are in.

Looks noisy enough to me.

It's not too bad.  Granted, it doesn't look and have that natural film look
that Nikon produces, but it is still acceptable for the price and targeted
segment the camera was designed for.

Looking at the full-size pics the noise on the front fender is a bit
obtrusive - ok it's at 1600, but from the hype I was hearing I expected
the 1600 performance to be better.

This post is off-topic for this newsgroup, rec.photo.equipment.35mm,
which is concerned with film cameras that use 35mm film, not digital
cameras that look like 35mm SLRs.

Please use an appropriate newsgroup for postings on digital cameras. One
of the following groups would be a good place for such postings:

  rec.photo.digital
  rec.photo.digital.point+shoot
  rec.photo.digital.rangefinder
  rec.photo.digital.slr
  rec.photo.digital.slr-systems

(Note that the list of groups available to you depends on what your ISP
or news provider carries, and may differ from this list)

Honestly, it looks like what it is, a 15 megapixel 40D, which looks like the
30D, which is of course is the 20D...

That seems to sum it up, but that was the old Canon.   I'm being optimistic
on this one and hoping they break away from tradition.

The only two features that stand out for me compared to my 40D is the
added megapixels and the individual lens focus calibration adjustment.
The LCD is said to have higher resolution, but I never found the 40D
lacking in that area.
The 50D doesn't interest me as a much as the 7D or whatever the next
full-frame model will be.

Nor anyone else in the market for a full-frame.  The focus calibration thing
is nice, like Pentax they are agreeing that there are focus issues with some
lenses.  Once you use a real VGA lcd, you'll hate the old ones.

:-) You have right. I feel that Canon, after the 20D the only new camera
have made is the 5D

It is very sad, even with Nikon and the rest of them, features seem to be
the new mantra, not improving body designs.

I agree!  Things will be leveling off soon.  At least the D700 is
groundbreaking in the sense that it offers superior FF performance in a pro
body at a bargain basement price.  This is a great time to buy more glass.
Let us all stock up on some sweet Nikkors!

If it looks like a fish, smells like a fish and has scales... It's a
hairy wombat, right?

These are not 50D images. You can bet London to a brick on that!

Offering up unsubstantiated EXIF data that the images doesn't have as
some sort of proof it came from an experimental camera is pure genius (NOT!)

Why on earth would a Chinese site offer pictures of a European
countryside to (supposedly) demonstrate an experimental camera?

More Canon knitting. - Pulling the wool over the eyes of the gullible
and there are no more gullible than worshippers of EOS.

So let me guess; you buy a 50D, gush all about it for a couple of weeks,
buy a D90, and then tell us what crap the 50D is until the next round of
cameras?

I'd say that just about sums it up, John!

Except there's no need to either buy or use said cameras for "Rita" to
go on and on.
