My "Stepped-in the Rock Pool" Panorama that is.....

I did a trip down to Victoria recently and visited the Mt Buffalo area.
Lady's Bath Falls ore just inside the Mt Buffalo Park and more than
worth the short 400m walk.... they are that nice they almost look to
be landscaped!
I shot quite a few images here one foggy morning, but this is one that
I shot from the middle of the rock pool in waste deep water.

Yes the water was cold, but I had my waders with me.

Camera was nodal rotated using my pano rig of course. ;-)

Cheers

Trust you to post a superb image that has my pet hate - white sky...
I've taken a few good foggy photos, but not as good as that..

Brilliant work, Rusty.

Don't think it needed all that at the bottom, its a bit distracting.
About half way between the rock and the bottom of the image. Would have
liked to see a bit more of the rocks which were cut off at the top.

And in reality its not nodal. (but you will have to ask Doggie about that.)

BTW - I'm now working on a new simpler universal setup to mount my
camera should have it welded up next week. - no racks all manual and clamps.

Then there would be too much plain sky and no reflections.
Personally I think the photo could be even better at a different time, but
we all know the problem of wishing we were there on a better day.

Yeah there is one part of me looking forward to the day when the kids
have moved out and I can hang in one spot until the light and weather
is just perfect (while the wife reads or visits the local craft
shops) ....then there is a big part of me that is soooo not looking
forward to that day. :(

I would be willing to devote days if not weeks to getting an "OMG
Brilliant - No room for improvement" shot, but like most people,
normal life must go on and obligations to others must be met.

I guess a single man would find things a whole lot easier.

"Days", "weeks", my god you are keen!

>I guess a single man would find things a whole lot easier.

Only if they have nothing better to do!
I just make a mental note to go back at a better time, and like with most
people, it hardly ever happens :-)

Wouldn't it be great to go to a spot early in the morning for the morning
light, sit all day reading or writing memoirs, then shoot the afternoon
golden hour.

That's what our old mate Ansel used to do at Yosemite.

Yes he's the one that invented digital photos 0-9 zone system.

No not that much top the little peek which has been cropped 1/3 way from
the left.

Very nice - bet it was as cold as a witch's tit tho. I guess
that's the difference between a very good photographer
such as yourself, and me. Wading out into the middle of a
freezing cold pool to get a fantastic photo? Bugger that!!!

I really like it.  As the others have commented, the white sky
doesn't really detract.  The clarity under the water draws me to
look at the bottom half of the photo.

Sorry, but Coppermine Gallery doesn't have static URLs, so that may
end up at anything.  :-(

Did you mean this one?.....

Another great shot,  I know the feeling about the cold water, have done a
few in the same invironment.  Makes it worth while when you see the results.

Yes, I did mean that one.  Is there a way to view an image in the site
context and get a link to it?

Only the photog's gallery URL remains constant.  eg:  using their
username like this http://www.potd.com.au/gallery/adpotd

The URL to an image page within coppermine changes each time a new
photo is loaded to an album.  Actually the URLs remain the same but
the images all move along one to make way for new images.... kinda
like people shuffling along a bus station seat to make room for
someone else.

There may be a mod available for static URLs to images... I will go
have a look shortly.

I hope you can fine a mod for that, it's a rather silly "feature".

Some other comments if I may:

I have a problem reading grey text on a grey background, especially with a
small font.

I found it difficult to locate a gallery for someone who had moved from
Flickr to POTD.  I had an idea of the user name but wasn't sure.  The search
feature failed to locate the gallery.

When viewing the small images, the "previous" arrow should be disabled or
hidden on image 1 and likewise the "next" arrow when on the last image.

When viewing the large image, it would be good to be have a next and
previous function to save opening and closing windows.  And of course you
should never modify the user's browser layout.  This would be where the user
could catch the url for an image - provided it was usable.  An alternative
would be to have the option, like pbase, to show the larger image instead of
the medium in the detail page.

Coppermine's time on POTD is almost over, we are gunna redevelop the
whole site with custom code.  Coppermine is not that good and POTD was
never expected to be so big.

Sounds like a good plan.  Good luck with the development.

gives a much better "feeling"
of the foggy sky.

Yep agree.

Fog can create some good mood into the image.

Having something in the foreground adds more 3D to the overall feel.

Thanks Jeff.... no walking pano for me I'm afraid, as I am one of the
now "insignificant" non-believers... unless it's flat field pano of
course ;-)

Yep.... it's almost a full 360 degree FOV made from 26 images in
portrait orientation.

Cheers
