Like to replace my trusty old  F717  with some thing a bit smaller and has a good lens and may be a
10x or 12x Zoom range

Not to interested in Sony any more they don't seem to come up to it these days.

I was thinking around the Panasonic FZ8..?

Any thoughts into this..

Mind you the Sony is  on the list for the Dud CCD  device but has not shown any problems yet..

Thanks

The panasonics have nice glass but noisy sensors, so if big prints and
challenging light is your thing...  No.

Maybe a Canon G9 or perhaps even a Fuji F6000 (no IS but class-leading
good sensor in low-light).  It's hard to recommend cameras in this
genus nowadays as all the manufacturers, sadly even Fuji, are now just
chasing megapixels at the expense of quality.  Spend some time at
dpreview and imaging-resource, or if you can, hang back.  There is
room in the prosumer market for a much better model than is currently
being offered, and the day will come...

Hint to manufacturers:
The first maker to produce a camera with a quiet-at-high-iso 1/1.6-ish
sensor (8Mp is *enough*!!) with IS and a good 28-300-ish lens will
make an absolute killing...

All of those things are available, but no-one has stuck them into a
single camera.  (If I was running Fuji (they seem to have the best low-
noise small sensors, and can obviously do the rest), I reckon I'd be
making them a *fortune* by now... (O:)  Or if Fuji joined up with
Panasonic...

And you have a very fine camera - I miss mine...  Even though my
subsequent cameras have given incrementally better quality, they
haven't exactly run rings around it..

Thanks

I do Totally agree with you, this upmanship on Pixels is Totally stupid, I thought the Cmos censers
were far better than CCD..

Yes I like the Sony but would like as I have stated some thing a little more compact and a 10x zoom,
I still have a Small Sony to use for Parties and the like

And here's me thinking Sony make most of the sensors anyway.  So what's
your choice?

Yes and a lot of recalls for the Resin problem.

I thought that Canon and others made the CMOS  ones..?

After all these years I still love my even older Sony model of them...the
F707.....beautiful lens and pics, shutter lag and over saturation on reds I
live with.....
