Quite a nice scan. Flowers and jewelry are other things to mess with on
a flatbed. Fried corned beef hash is interesting, but leaves greasy residue.

My Canon a630 P&S will focus to 1cm; a consequence
of the much maligned small sensor.

The photo you gave was awful lots of flare and the posts really don't
tell you anything since they are a hard object to get to look unsharp.
Yes you can use your scanner but as your photo demonstrates you still
have to watch the depth of field.
