Zenitar 16mm Fisheye - Sample Pix from 1Ds2

I just picked up an MC Zenitar 16mm Fisheye lens from one of my
members at POTD.

I have been thinking about getting a fish for quite a while and when
this one became available, I figured "Why not?... for 150 bucks it
should worth a giggle"

Well I must say that I have been quite impressed with it's
performance.  Mind you, I have not shot anything wide open yet, but at
f8 or 11 it is really very good.  Center sharpness is excellent, as
are the corners (only the very outer corner edge drops off).

It does flare a bit when shooting straight into the sun, but as you
will see in the following pix it's not too bad....  I have seen worse
in much more expensive lenses myself.

Focusing is manual of course and stop down metering is required, but
there really is no need to focus as f11 @ about 1.2-2m gives you
enough DOF to cover just about everything.

Like all fish lenses, I think this could be overused, but for times
when you are looking for something a little more graphic it can be a
lot of fun.

The above images where shot using a 1Ds2 and I would only recommend
this type of lens for full frame bodies if the fish effect is
important to you.  But that said, it would make a very cheap wide
solution for APS-C bodies, as the smaller area would help avoid a
large amount of the fish distortion.

Cheers

Looks pretty good, do you have any larger samples (or 1:1) crops
available?

BTW, you need to whitelist groups.google.com in your anti-hotlink
filter. ;)

Sure do... I will post some for you later tonight.

Hmmm?..... Being direct links they are clickable for you are they
not?

Yep, but your anti hotlink filter redirects to http://www.pixelpix.com.au/images/antileach.gif
:)

Thanks for posting the crops, for that price I might give it a go
myself. Is yours new or SH?

(I still get annoyed when I look at the edges of any shots taken with
my rather expensive 16-35mm L lens...)

I don't understand why it is even getting involved if the images are
getting called direct?

Same problem here.  Clicking on the link in GGroups gets the X... So I
have to copy the link location into a fresh browser window. No big
deal, but you'll lose some viewers who won't bother to work it out.

Nice shots by the way.  I've heard the Zenitar is a bargain.

May I ask what browser?  I am using FireFox and it jumps direct to the
images.

...ok I just had a look in Safari and yes I get the anti-leach...
bugga.  I will update the anti-leach. (If I can remember how... lol)

Thanks

It sure is, I bought just for fun and really didn't expect much, but
now I think it will get used quite a bit.  (....I think given the
right subject, subject distance and camera level, it can even pass as
a non fish if I am careful.)

Thanks

if anyone is interested.

This is one of my faves....  http://www.potd.com.au/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/ANZAC_I7U5584-2.jpg

Mine was second hand from one of the members at POTD, but it had only
been used a couple of times.

Crops as requested....

http://www.potd.com.au/samples/FireEngine_CentCROP.jpg
http://www.potd.com.au/samples/FireEngine_CornerCROP.jpg

These are larger strips (700k 'ish each) to show you edge performance
as well....

I hope these help.
