Shooting directly to PC from digital SLR

I'm currently contemplating a camera upgrade to allow me to shoot pictures
directly to the PC.
These are mainly going to be parts and products no bigger than a shoe box
and will most likely be shot in a small light tent.
Quality is not as crucial as process time as they will be used for web and
low quality print catalogues.

I'm leaning towards a Nikon D40 with a 50mm lens and using Nikon's Camera
Control Pro Software.
Ideally I'd love to shoot directly to photoshop and then batch image process
the pictures.

Does anyone have any experience with this or other like software/camera
packages?

I'm open to any brand and software options.

Awsome.
Thanks for that.
I'm currently trying to decide if Breeze pro is worth the $$ they ask.

Anyone here used it?

Every day.  I use Downloader Pro to download my images from the flash
card and BreezeBrowser to quickly view them.

I also sometimes use DSLR Remote with a laptop to make time-sequence
recordings.
