Clearly this group doesn't need a boost in traffic - or so the couple of
vocal critics of my photos suggest so... I've stopped posting to here when
posting to rec.photo.equipment.35mm.

Maybe those who thought my presence was in itself unwanted and just
encouraged the troll to come out from under their rocks, can express their
views on this matter without interference from the kooks of the world who
claim to be photographers.

If ever a shot screamed out in pain for a polariser and a bit of
contrast...  But it's not actually all that bad.  Nice composition,
just very 'flat' looking.

And as usual the Copyright thing just looks silly.

But keep at it Douglas - one thing I have noticed is that you
*finally* seem to have got the hang of avoiding JPG artefacting...  If
you keep this up there only about 5 more major faults to correct, and
you will be good at it!

Excellent comment Fred. The most constructive post you've made.

Douglas,
What comment did Fred make? Looks like you just re-posted what you
had posted under Fred's signature. Did I miss something or did you
forget to paste his comments? Just wondering.
Like the fence shot, though. Reminds me of some of my trecking
days.

Fred is one of those smart arsed dudes who thinks it's cool to be cool. A
Troll. Despite me posting only to Aus.Photo he though it was cool to make
sure the message attracted maximum troll comments by just adding a newsgroup
to the header and re posting it without anything said... Absolutely his most
constructive comment for 2007.

Thanks for the comment,
Douglas.

Oh master of image processing, I Love how you darkened the sky, but you
forgot a triangle on the center left of the image.  Oops?  Or is this
another image "designed" to bring out the evil critics?

I was heavily armed and absent minded. You pay a high price for that in
the Army.

You've lost me there...
That image was cropped. The 'highlight/shadow' tool applied to lift the
close end of the fence out of obscurity and levels applied to it.

Can you be specific about the bit you refer to?

This part of the sky (red triangle) abruptly changes brightness and hue
along the line of the branches.  Probably didn't get this triangle selected
with the rest of the sky.  I've made this mistake myself and had similar
results.

Keep in mind Mark, That shot was about 15 minutes post dawn, after I took
the lighthouse. No doubt you'll believe whatever you choose but I did
absolutely nothing to the sky. Maybe it's a cloud or morning mist in the
triangle area?

A quirk of 20D's when set up to use Adobe RGB is to lower the overall colour
saturation as the gamut widens but in that mode, they saturate blue a little
more than when using sRGB. This could also be the reason.

Normally, I would have taken these shots with a film camera. Had I not taken
the digital specifically for a job I was doing, I would have but the
Digitals were all I had with me that day.

I'll send you the RAW file if you'd like to assure yourself of what I say!

I'd love to have it!

Then maybe I can figure out why you're bitchin about saturation on a
RAW file.  That's kinda the point of RAW, if you don't like something,
change it.  Too bad that doesn't work on you.
You must be JPG.  Just a Paranoid Grump.

Doug when you shoot in Raw the camera doesnt account for aRGB or sRGB
Only the jpg registers.
If you are using photoshop then the raw converter gives you the option
of choosing sRGB output or aRGB output.
I've been using my 20D only in raw since i've had it and it has never
exhibited that quirk even though i have set the rgb levels and white point.
Raw is RAW

Our friend Douglas does not believe in RAW.

You dare argue with one of Australia's most sought after Professional
Wedding Photographers with over 20 years experience?
Of course, D-Mac is sought after kinda like the way that Osama Bin
Laden is sought after.  That's why he needs the boat ... for those
quick getaways when the angry brides come calling.
