What odds for a coincidence like this?

I know I said I'd ignore the joker but you just gotta read this... It's way
too stupid for words to describe properly.

A participant in this group has an ADSL connection with Bell South and lives
in Chattanooga, Tennessee in the good old USA. He has personalised number
plates on his baby Nissan too!

Said participant sends me a message via my web site's form mailer which
records the IP address of the sender ...asking if I've had enough. This it
turns out is after he forges my identity a SECOND time and re-posts his crap
on Pbase without telling me.

Same participant a day later threatens to disrupt my business through eBay
by placing false bids and whatever mayhem he can think of that will effect
me financially, personally and (for all I know) sink my boat as well...
Whoopee! Margie will be cross if he does that.

Yesterday someone's attempt to "guess" (yeah, I'm that green to use a weak
password) my eBay password from a Bell south IP address in Southern USA,
resulted in the security measures on eBay freezing my account until I proved
I was actually me and it was safe to let me back in.

Today, an attempt is made to illegally obtain my password to eBay from a
Bell South IP address in Chattanooga Tennessee USA. Odd that I've got some
takers for my wedding package ending real soon--- Another coincidence,
perhaps?

Now what odds would you give that all this is a coincidence?
Seriously... Think about it for a moment   20 to 1? 100 to 1?

No odds at all. The bastard calling himself ANNIKA1980 - real name Bret
Douglas, attempted to gain illegal access to a commercial account I have on
eBay in a (failed) attempt to fulfil his threats to destroy my credibility
and my eBay trading reputation.

At least the jerk who hammered us all for participating in shootin actually
had some networking skills. He really did conceal his tracks... But this
joker? Oh God he's pathetic.

Bret Douglas posted the message to Jim Kramer from the exact same IP address
used to try and gain control over my eBay account. While he's doing all this
he's trying to come across to the group as if he's the poor bastard being
done over.
Excellent evidence Sherlock, just excellent.

Of course the whole saga of dirty deeds by this joker is all being (quite
legally) recorded and explained with evidence to substantiate his disgusting
behaviour on my equally legally setup web site: http://www.annika19890.com.

I think it's contents are changing so fast with Bret's plethora of dumb
attempts at being cool, I should probably put an RSS feed on it so the world
can get it's updates as they occur.

I promise, this is the last reference to him in a post...
Until next time he tries an unbelievably stupid stunt to best this old
Aussie warhorse.

Geez, Doug - I wouldn't be placing too much faith in your
ISP-locator-routine.

It identified my ISP as Optus (correct) and my location as Townsville.

I'm in Sydney (24km NW of, actually)

The database is updated monthly. Seeing as Optus is a foreign (Singapore)
company, I wouldn't put any faith in them to provide accurate statistics to
the company who use the information.

The IP address is what I'm more interested in. It's been working in the
background since I opened that site. I only put the window there for all to
see that I was actually recording every visit and anyone who downloads an
image as opposed to pulls a web page, leaves their signature. Curious, how
many people and where they reside, who have accessed some of the images
directly for a download!

Thanks for the message anyway, Jeff.

Now tell the rest of the story.
You know, about how you posted a nativity scene pic that was all dark
at the bottom making it unviewable.  And about how I did some
Photoshop magic and made it a usuable photo, and posted the new
version in my "Testing" gallery with links to it in the newsgroup.
And don't forget the part about how I even offered to fix the original
for you if you'd send me the original.  No you forget all that.  All
you remember is that I didn't put "m II" under it.  So instead of
thanking me for my work or asking me politely to credit the caption,
you whined like a puss and called me a thief.
Come to think of it, that's about all you ever post about.

Well all I can say is go grab a can of "Getthefuckoverit!"

You might consider making a formal complaint through your police
authorities. They can get FBI and/or FTC involved here in the US.

If you can document the actions you allege, there are U.S. laws and
international treaties dealing with intentional interception of and
interference with telecommunications that apply.

Not to mention intentional mis-representation in Internet financial
transactions (eBay) constitutes wire fraud, which will interest USPS
Postal Inspectors.

I'm assuming that Doug's report is 100% honest & correct. If this is
not the case, then please disregard the following comments:

Doug: You need to quickly contact your local police department & ask
them to whom you should report the attempt to crack your Ebay account.
The Federal Police used to be responsible for dealing with these sorts
of incidents, but I no longer work in that part of the industry, so
that may no longer be the case. If your local police don't have a
clue, call the the Fed's yourself.
It's important that you do this immediately, while the logs are still
available on the relevant servers, because the legal procedures can
take long enough that the logs have may have expired off the servers
before the operator is subpoenaed.
(If I were in your shoes, & my solicitor didn't have any objection,
I'd contact the culprit's provider (as above) directly to report the
incident, & ask them instigate an investigation into their user
themselves. This would likely ensure that the culprit's account is
shut down, or at least monitored for suspicious activity.)

In the meantime, STOP INTERACTING WITH BRETT in any way whatever.
Check with your solicitor, who I strongly suspect will give you the
same advice.

Brett: If you are the person trying to screw with Doug's account[s],
DON'T DO IT! - This sort of crap is illegal, & is exactly the kind of
escalation I was worried about when I advised you both to quit poking
at each other after creating your respective parody websites.
Attempting to crack someone's Ebay account is not a prank or a
practical joke. Even if it's unsuccessful, even the attempt is a
Federal crime in the USA, & the fact that the target isn't in America
makes no difference to that. You should also call your lawyer, because
(assuming Doug's accusation is true), you are likely to be needing
legal advice in the very near future. And the same advice I gave Doug
applies to you as well: STOP INTERACTING WITH DOUG in any way
whatever. Check with your lawyer, who I strongly suspect will give you
the same advice.

Everone else: Please try to behave responsibly about the Brett/Douglas
pissing match. Please don't encourage either of them. Better yet,
please don't involve yourself in it at all.

The saga is detailed here Lionel: http://www.anika1980.com Everything is
documented. I have route traces and headers intact. The evidence is
truthful. Don't you remember I once owned a Unix network management company?
Collecting evidence about these sort of things was a daily event.

Formal complaints have been or are being lodged with the appropriate US
agencies. The rest is in the hands of who decides to investigate or not.
Bell South seem to be dragging their feet. They claim to have a Zero
tolerance policy but neglected to mention how long it is going to take to
for them to investigate the matter and censure his account. They are
probably monitoring it for a while to get a handle on what he's doing.

It took Pbase over a week to take "Urgent" action under threat of a court
injunction to take my photos off his fraudulently created site. Only to see
him repeat the issue with different twist to my name a few days later.

I've engaged a Nashville law firm to handle the issue and they in turn are
plundering my Amex card as if I were the King of England and charging like
wounded bulls to send me Emails telling me what they've done so far and plan
to do in the future to empty it entirely!

Lionel, you were the first to encourage him. It's gone past the point of me
caring what it costs to stop the bastard into an area all business people
who interact on the Internet will at one time be faced with... Idiots out to
damage or destroy their source of income because for whatever reasons they
have, take an objection to someone. In this case it seems Bret thinks he can
insult and prod me and my clients but expects me to sit there and take it.

Clear and exact Lionel...
This means I either stop him at any cost or pack my bags and give it all up.
I'm not about to shut up shop or stop my enjoyment of the Internet because
some jerk can't control his primal urges. If he won't stop, I'll stop him.
End of story.

What coincidence is it that I've had to reset my eBay account three times in
the past 4 days and his IP address shows up as the ID of the person trying
get access to my password?

Yes, I understand all that, Doug. Because I work in the IT/networking
industry, I have to be careful not to make public statements that
could be construed as a professional endorement of legal evidence that
I haven't personally investigated or verified in a professional
capacity.

FWIW, I believe that the Federal Police have a fair amount of pull
with their US counterparts when they need to get the wheels in motion.

>Lionel, you were the first to encourage him.

Doug, I have encouraged nothing more than him poking fun at your
sillier behaviour in these groups, which he (& I) have every right to
do. When he started pushing the borderline between between harmless
fun & legally suspect behaviour, I was the first to urge him to drop
the matter & let things cool down - just as I urged you at the same
time. If this situation becomes a disaster for you both, you'll have
nobody to blame but yourselves.

Do you understand that if you continue to interact with him, & it ends
up in court, your emails & Usenet posts about him may well help his
case?

If you can get onto EBay's security people (not easy, from what I've
been told), perhaps they could block his IP address block from being
able to attempt logins to your account. It might not be technically
practical, but there's no harm in asking them to try.

Ebay is rather notorious for their laissez-faire  & lackadaisical
attitude toward fraud perpetrated there so long as they get their cut,
so good luck there.

Technical practicality may pose a larger problem. If he's posting from
bellsouth.net, he won't have a static IP.

OTOH, Bellsouth can get a little uptight when their own interests are
threatened, and hosting someone who uses the service for criminal
activities does threaten their interests (you just have to get them to
understand that) so you might just be able to get the perp bounced from
his ISP.

He'll have no problem finding another and will be back in business in no
time.

Hey, that's nothing.  What about GoDaddy.com?
I've been in contact with them to have your site taken down since it
is a clear violation of their Terms of Service Policy which I quote
here:
================================
Except as set forth below, Go Daddy may also cancel Your use of the
Services, after thirty (30) days, if You are using the Services, as
determined by Go Daddy in its sole discretion, in association with
spam or morally objectionable activities. Morally objectionable
activities will include, but not be limited to: activities designed to
defame, embarrass, harm, abuse, threaten, slander or harass third
parties;
================================

Those guys still haven't taken down your site even though a quick 30-
second glance at your website would be proof enough that your site was
created for the very purposes outlined in that section of their TOS.
"..activities designed to defame, embarrass, harm, abuse, threaten,
slander or harass third parties"

And that doesn't even speak to your numerous violations of copyright
where you stole pics of me from my friends' websites.
D-Mac, King of the Copyright Thieves.

But I come from a long line of fortune tellers so I'll tell ya exactly
what's gonna happen.  I'm going to be in touch with GoDaddy.com
tomorrow and they will either remove your site or I'll know the reason
why they don't.
And if for some reason they give me a bunch of BS like "it's out of
our control" then I'll simply open my own site hosted by GoDaddy.
That should be fun.  Either way, it's Win/Win for me.

Or maybe I'll just let your site stay up to serve as evidence against
you in any future legal proceedings I may file?  Each page you add to
your website only makes the harrassment charges more likely to stick.

Hey, too bad those pbase sites aren't there any more, D-Mac.  You have
gone and destroyed all of the alleged evidence.  LOL!

BTW, what is the name of the Nashville law firm you have supposedly
retained?  Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe?
As I've mentioned before one of my best pals is the head of one of the
largest firms in the SE US.  He is the "C" in CBS.
http://www.cbslawfirm.com/
Hey, they do work all over the world, even in Australia.
And the best part is, I won't have to pay a cent.
Who Rules?

More lies from Captain Delusional.

Hell, to hear you talk you own half of Australia.  And yet, you live
on a houseboat.  LOL!

I hope you took some care in making sure it was ebay you were dealing
with, and not just clicking on the link they gave you to "prove" you
are who you say you are.  This is one of the oldest scams on the
internet, tell someone their account has problems and they need to
verify some of their personal information.   I get this all the time
from ebay, starting off saying something like "We regret to inform you
that your eBay account could be suspended if you don't re-update you
account information."  They are then nice enough to give me a link
that I can click and "update" my account information"  Thing is I
don't have an eBay account so I kind of get the feeling that just
maybe this is someone other then eBay trying to get information that I
would much rather they not have.

Oh here is another one that I got
"You have received this email because we have strong reasons to
believe that your eBay user account had been recently compromised. In
order to prevent any fraudulent activity from occurring we are
required to open an investigation into this matter."

It should have said 5461 A.

Either would be correct: 5461Å = 546.1nm (Not sure if I'm using the
right character set to make the angstrom symbol show up correctly.)
