is it really worth paying $250 odd dollars for a multi coated circular
polariser (like the hoya pro 1) . That's nearly 30% of the value of the lens
it would be going on...

I want to use it on a sigma 10-20 (77mm) but I'm hoping to be able to also
use it on a sigma 17-70 (72mm) via a step down without vignetting...

Just seems like a lot of $$$...

actually, I think you will find one of the main advantages of the PRo1
filter is the thin ring..... possibly necessary to avoid vingetting with
such a wide angle.

A standard HMC should do the trick if you don't get any vingetting.. and
is a fair bit cheaper.

It's funny you should say that when some-one else just claimed the HMC
filters are crap and should never be used :-)
Actually I think you will find there is a difference in optical performance
too, and there are other models in the Hoya range as well.
