Its because you have screwed off the universal mount adapter off the
lens.  I think they were called a K2 mount lenses for which you could
buy or change the mount with this adapter to suit what ever camera.
These mounts have a fine thread inside. Changing the mount like this
maintained the correct film to lens distance. (by not adding a spacer tube)

you bought, I would assume, something like a Pentax M42 screw thread to
Pentax K mount.

What did you buy lets have a URL!

Thanks for thr reply. The URL is:-

This is the unit I purchased. I have adapter which come in two parts
with the right thread but won't focus to infinity.

The lens came with the thread & a cap so I assumed that it was
complete.

Yep because its acted as an extension tube (for a better description)
between the lens and camera. So the camera will not focus at infinity.

Actually found what you need its called a " T " mount adapter (not K2
mount as I stated above) for you lens. This has that fine thread on the
inside - Adeal Catalogue.  Page 8-8

Go to a local camera shop and ask them and they may be able to sort you
out in getting the correct conversion adapter for your lens.

Thanks Rob. I almost got there; with some extra work I found -

I'll now follow up on your advise.

Ha, good luck finding a camera shop in Australia that stocks those adapters.
(most don't stock any, or even know they are available)
Ebay was probably the correct choice IF he had checked exactly what he
required before purchase.

All you have to ask if the shop, trades with the importers, Adeal, who
have them in stock.

BTW most shops deal with them as there the importers of Manfrotto, Hoya,
Samsung, Leica, Gitzo, Hama, Tokina lenses, etc. something like 80,000
lines.

Might be worth while for yourself to have a look at there catalogue.

Why, I already asked at a couple of shops. Croydon camera shop stocks the
Nikon to Canon for example, and are NOT interested in getting anything else.
The cost is more than importing them in any case. For something small cheap
and not fragile, there is little downside in buying them OS.
I WOULD happily pay a bit more IF they were readily available over the
counter though. Not much chance of that IME.

Rubbish when the other person has already paid out for the incorrect
adapter for there lens ($24) - now have to purchase another. So where's
the saving in that???? That's an overseas purchase.

They could have returned or made sure it was suitable if it were bought
in Australia. And yes that item is available in Australia irrespective
if your camera shop in - where the hell is - Croydon.

Yes I already said you need to determine what you need BEFORE purchase. Most
of us have no trouble doing that. I don't anyway, can't speak for you of
course.
I will bet money you can't find any shop with the correct adapter on the
shelf, and most likely you can't even find a salesman who knows what is
required. The OP is probably getting far more help here than he would in a
camera shop.

But hey whatever works for you is fine by me.

I'll have a go at ADEAL tomorrow, but I noticed that there are T-mount
to K-mount available on E-Bay. Obviously I didn't know what I was
doing but I do now. And so do any others that have read this thread,
which is what it's all about. I'll keep the adapter I bought because I
just might run into a Pentax M f=2000 lying around somewhere. I picked
up an F=50 1.7 incl. an SF7 a month ago at a cash Converters for $89,
so I'll live with it.

Assuming they even have everything listed in stock, I find that web page
much less than helpful for someone who didn't already know what they want.
Fortunately the OP got help here, and can probably use what he already
bought anyway (and at a lower cost it seems)
If he re-sold it on ebay, and ordered what he really needs, he would
probably still be ahead :-)

Good, it's nice to know things are improving at some camera shops then.
Obviously I don't live in Sydney I guess, so disregard my comments if you do
:-)

Yep! Well, not quite improved at some. One I went to, after being
asked to wait for the resident "expert" suggested Dick Smith. Qte "Oh!
We don't keep Pentax." Anyway, now focuses to infinity, so all OK.

At a guess I would say your Soligor 400 prime is a T-Mount not M42.

A Pentax K T-Mount should cost about $25 from any decent photo shop.
