I am looking for an entry level lens for taking surfing and boating shots.
I have seen the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM on Amazon for US$556
and was wondering anyones opinion on it.
The cheapest I have found in Australia is A$950.
I have been told to go straight to the IS model as it is a lot better lens.
Or does anyone have any suggestions on other lenses in an under $900 area.
TIA

Try to find a used 400 f/5.6L. I got mine off EBAY for about $850.

Or a 200 f2.8L would be my pick, then buy a 400 when you can afford it.

Agree, the 70-300 is a pile of crap.
Another is a 300 f4L or the IS version.

Do you mean another good choice or another pile of crap?

I'd say another good choice, but good luck finding an IS version for the
budget amount :-)

If you were in France you could do some long distance 'couple kissing'
perving and post it in B&W as art and call it your pic of the week
