Anyone using an underwater housing with a 20D? I deally I'd like to use a
70-200 lens with it but I'd be happy just to know where to get a housing
for any lens on it. Short of buying a Olympus E330 Underwater version...
Thanks in advance

I was interested in buying one a while back but the prices put me off. A
decent setup (housing + 2 lights) will set you back $3000-5000.

Thanks Chris,
I saw that one myself. I really only want to set it up on a jet ski or
similar for surfing photos. Somehow I think the purpose built Olympus kit
might work if were modified for a longer lens.
http://www.olympus.com.au/component/option,com_product/id,24/task,detail/It
emid,69/ I might also look at a more simple "waterproof" housing.

The pictures will be for sale so the cost of the housing will just add a
cost to each sale. $5k is not over the top for this sort of thing. I had
just hoped an Aussie maker could be found... You know, flag waving and all
that!

Great to see you have waited a whole day before changing your sig again, how
many is that 150? You must have a lot to hide from! Very sad.

Peter.
You really will have to pay attention.
You can read the headers of a message by using the controls of your
browser. When you read mine, you'll see I post from several different
computers, all running different software and operating systems.

These are in geographically different locations at business I own in the
Bayside area of Brisbane. I use a wireless network to gain internet
access and 'net phone connections through my router on a maxi speed
cable connection.

People in the past who attacked me like you do couldn't grasp the
concept of a businessman having different computers and minimising the
cost of the Internet by having them all use the same connection. I do
still have one computer store, you know?

I don't use different names to confuse you. I use my name in several
ways so I know where the post came from.  You don't have to be a genius
to know who I am or if I wrote a post. If you want to filter me out, use
the Email address, not the username. photosbydouglas-groups@yahoo.com.au

It's a valid and disposable address. If you filter on it, you will only
ever see a post from me when I dispose of that address because of too
much spam.

I also post from several different PCs but manage to use the same sig and
same email, not hard now is it? I myust say I am truly amazed that you have
had about 60 different email addresses and sigs over the years though, thats
a lot of spam.

D-Mac, when I told you to take a long walk on a short pier, I didn't
mean to take the bloody 20D with you!

Doug, you do NOT want a tele underwater. Wide angles
are the thing for uw.  All you get with a tele is fog or
lots of dirty water.

Go back a few posts - he wants it to keep the camera dry in the surf.

that should be easier/cheaper.
Are the Ewa-Marine watertight
bags still made?

yep.....last time I checked, though broght into aus. through a very
small importer.... could check on line, however I don't think 20D and
ewa-marine would be a mix I would use. Ikelite maybe!

For surf protection?  Surely the Ikelite would be overkill:
it's diving gear, ready for lots of pressure.  The advantage of
the Ewa stuff was that it was water tight but not for
high pressure: a LOT cheaper.  Dunno if that's still the case?

i agree coompletely...... but not sure I would trust a decent outfit in
what is essentially a watertight bag! maybe worth picking up an
older/cheaper cam... that way if there is a problem....

people with some direct relevent experience may disagree.... please do.

your camera is either wet... or it's not. Unfortunately a cheaper
alternative may mean ????????

Ah ok! sorry, I didn't understand what the problem was.
yes, I see your point.  one of the reasons I ended up
with a metal housing instead of a plastic one: at least
the metal one I could shove in the face of a shark without
worrying too much.  that was the theory, anyway...  ;-)

I have had a EWA bag for several years and it hasn't let me down, I take
it snorkling and in the surf. But it will only take a short lens of
which I use 20 to 50mm stuff on Nikon FE/MD12, F301 and D100.

does it give you confidence...... or are you feeling that you are
fortunate so far?

No I am confident in using it. Tough as buggery, if it was to leak
bubbles would start coming out as the pressure/depth increased. Has
large glove, glass port in front of the lens and eye piece.  there are
plastic rings to locate the lens within the lens port.

They are well made.
