Hi All,

I got back today from five days at the beach (hence my silence online
for that long :) and took photos of Comet McNaught with both my 400D and
my IR converted 350D. The results can be viewed at:

Excellent examples of about the only use removal of the IR filter is good
for. Top marks from me for those shots. Wayne.

G'day Wayne,

I'm amazed at the amount of skylight still around at even 9:04 PM
Australian Eastern Standard Time on 23 Jan 2007.  (See the second
image down the above page, namely: 23/01/07 9:04PM AEST, Canon 400D
and Canon 17-35mm F2.8L at 17mm, f2.8 and 30 seconds at 400ISO.)

Here in FNQ it's pretty well dark by about 7:15 PM AEST -- and that
includes about 20 minutes of "daylight saving" due to longitude.
I know you southerners enjoy far more twilight than we do in the
tropics, but I didn't realise it went that far even in Victoria!

So I'm just wondering if you really mean AEST, or should it be AEDT?

Nice photos BTW.  We haven't had any chance to see the thing -- I'm
not even sure it would be visible at this latitude, but the western
sky has been clouded over every afternoon/evening for weeks now
anyway. (At least we finally got some rain out of it -- 43 mm in a
nice shower this afternoon in fact, and still a bit of light drizzle
around. :-)

Cheers, Phred.

Hi Phred,

It is daylight saving time, so I guess you are right and it should be
AEDT. I'll change it.

Thanks,

Wayne

Fixed. I unthinkingly wrote AEST on the first one and the copied this
and edited for the other captions and never caught it.

Thanks,

Wayne

Thanks for the clarification, Wayne.  (I don't feel so deprived of
daylight now. :-)

Cheers, Phred.

Hi Wayne
I was in Rosebud and took a few shots with the 20D but there was a touch
more light pollution than there was in Sorrento unfortunately

Yup, that's how it would have been in our backyard so I took off to the
backbeach. Still a lot of light but better. What I really should have
done was go to one of the back beaches where the carpark is a decent
walk from the beach.

Still they are great images for somewhere with a lot of light. Well done.

Cheers,

Wayne

My last crack at McNaughts comet on Friday night.  Too much light so I
tried to include that into the shot.

Nice shot. I really like environmental shots that put the sky into
context with how we usually view it.
