I got a couple similar, but am trying to clean them up a bit more before posting (taken on a prosumer).

Joan - 22 Jan 2007 20:48 GMT On Friday when I was taking shots it was only a bit west of south.

I'm playing with dark frame subtraction and noise reduction, but until I am satisfied, here's a couple of unprocessed ones:

Had to laugh about the second one - the folks in front decided that during my time exposure, it would be good to get some flashlit shots of his new scope.. (O; Oh well, it looks kinda neat..

(O; Oh well, it looks kinda neat.. The second one is actually the best image I've seen from the comet.
It has a quirky, ghost-in-the-machine quality that adds a little human drama.

It's too far south to view from the U.S. now. Got a couple of shots just before it went behind the sun, nothing spectacular.

After Friday night's effort, I realised the S2IS just wasnt up to the task - 15sec limit on it's exposures is the big killer, and even at ISO50 noise is an issue. Unfortunately, I had to work saturday so I couldn't get out to buy some decent film, and I only had B&W at home. On my way home I stopped at every servo on the way hoping to pick up some Fuji Superia 100 (My first choice would have been Velvia or Sensia, but it's hard enough to find here at the best of times, no chance of finding it after hours on a saturday). The only film the servos had was that horrid 400 speed Kodak Max stuff. At the third, and last servo before home, there was this solitary roll of Konica 100. I figured it would have to be better than Kodak Max, so gave it a burl - turned out ok. If tomorrow night isn't cloudly I'll have 2, or maybe even 3, cameras on the go with Superia 100 (or reala, sensia or velvia if I can find them). With 4-5 minute exposures and a viewing window of about 30 minutes, it makes it hard to get a decent number of shots with varying focal lengths, composures etc with only one camera. The good news is though - the missus has seen some other shots taken with various DSLRs, I think I am now closer than ever for funding approval on the K10D - I'll probably end up getting the Samsung GX10 - same camera, different badge, better lense, and it looks like it will be about $200 cheaper.

How lucky you folks are to have this in your sky! :)
If you haven't done so already, you should consider submitting your photos to the McNaught Photo Gallery: http://www.spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught.htm
