Similar to my previous post, any recommendations for source / brand of
Compact Flash card? Probably looking at 2 x 1gb.

Are the RiData 150x cards any good? There's a lot of them on eBay for good
prices.

Cheers,
Matt

Not my recommendation buying off ebay - too many irrugularities with the
cards - there are heaps of local dealers who sell cards which are
covered by Australian consumer warranty. They are very competive with
ebay who sometimes charge more for the freight and packaging thjan the card.

I use Sandisk Ex III  1Gb are about $70 and 2Gb $140  and cheaper. These
should be fast enough for what you want. lifetime waranty and easily
returned if bought in Australia.

I agree.

Although I use Ebay often, there are far too many bad stories about
fake cards and the prices after freight etc. are really not all that
good. I did see  some at www.graysonline.com.au yesterday if  you want
to buy at auction, but still, after adding the extras the prices were
not  all that good.

Just looked at greysonline at there pricing a minimum bid. Sandisk Ultra
II 1G sd card at min bid $39 plus 12,5% = $44  plus $15 freight. thats
$59  - and if you look, a 2Gb 80x card is only $55 (Apacer). And as for
the ORP $299 there a bit out of touch as well.

Ta for the advice - pity that eBay has become so suspect for CF cards :-(

Considering my usage - rarely burst shooting more than 3 frames in a row -
is the Sandisk Extreme III a little... uhh.. extreme for my needs? Or do
they have benefits other than the speed?

Any experience with RiData 150x's? I won't buy one from eBay, but several
stores have them (e.g. powerinnumbers.com.au) and they appear to be a bit
cheaper than the Sandisk Extreme III's.

In reality I don't need any more than 1 x 1gb, I just don't want to be in
the middle of nowhere with only one card and have it die. Perhaps a good
card & a cheapie would be a good combo.

the difference is about $5  and the EIII is 122x ????

Why would you want a 150x card if you thing the EIII is too fast.

$10 from the cheapest prices I can find - admittedly not a lot, but why
waste money?

Because they're cheaper, and the "150x" on a CF card is a bit like
"1000000:1 contrast ratio!" on a projector - in reality the RiData 150x
cards are slower than the Sandisk 122x cards.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Matt

Someone gave me this link some time ago - might be worth a look

Thanks - by chance I actually stumbled accross that yesterday as well :-)

I ended up buying 2 x 1gb Sandisk Ultra II cards - according to that
database they're basically as fast as the Extreme III's in a 30D or 350D,
and significantly cheaper.

I have:
1gig Apacer Photo Steno Pro II 100x
4gig Seagate Compact Flash Photo Hard Drive (Type II card)
2gig Sandisk Extreme III (three of them)

They're all great. The 4gig is a bit slow, but it is a hard drive (not flash
memory like the rest). The Apacer is great, I'd recommend them. You can get
an 8gig 150x apacer for $250, or a 2gig for under $100.
