I was just wondering if I could get some comments.
I am thinking of upgrading from a Nikon F90 + 28-70, 70-300 lenses +sb26
spedlite + mc20 remote.
Since technology has made it such that buying a camera is no longer a
long term proposition, I am wondering what to do with a budget of approx
$2300
Some options:
1) Buy a D80 body
2) Buy a D80 + kit lens
3) Buy a D80 body only + sb600
4) Buy the Olympus e500 + 3 lens kit + flash
5) other options?
The reason I am not that gung-ho on Nikon any more is their attitude to
the all important "ownership" of images and the processing software
limitations I have heard about in their RAW converters but am yet to
research in detail.
I predominantly use Linux and would like any opinions on which company
has the best "ethos" or attitude with regard to openess with software
and RAW conversions etc (I mainly use Gimp).

Hava a look at the D80 kit - it comes with the 18-135mm lens. You will
need the wide side of things 18mm = 27mm. Then you have your existing
lenses for use as well.

This is a storm in a tea cup and does not and will not create any
problems. Adobe can still convert Nikon RAW files so they open in
Photoshop. Think you better look into that one further and see if the
rumor is still true as each maker has there own standard RAW file.
Nikon also provides a RAW converter with the camera.
Phase One have no problem either do other programmes these may not be as
good as the Nikon one tho just Adobe didn't want to do the research and
development of there own.

So what if you choose to be different. Can you get a raw converter with
Gimp? or how does all the other camera manufactures get on with Gimp?
