I have several mini DV tapes and would like them transfered on to DVD. Does
anyone know where I can get this done - preferably in Perth if possible.
Thanks.

Do you have a mate with a MiniDV camcorder? It should be relatively
easy to capture and re-render the data. Many capture programs can
convert from a MiniDV stream to an MPEG-2 DVD-ready output.

Many stand-alone DVD recorders (the ones under your TV, not in a
computer) have a DV port. They are available from $200. There is usually
a single paragraph in the user manual which explains how to make a DVD
from your DV camera. Most also allow simple editing (re-arranging
segments, deleting segments) before closing the DVD (making it
compatible with other DVD players).
You will probably be charged about the same for the work someone will do
to convert them (and you wont end up with a DVD recorder after parting
with your money).

And slightly more off-topic I have some Hi8 tapes that I would like
converted to DVD if this at all possible. They were recorded on a Canon EX1
HI8 many years ago, which is long gone.
If somenone can point me in the right direction in the Brisbane area I
would really appreciate some assistance.

I was in PhotoContinental last week and the sales assistant was very
knowledgeable on how to do this.
Suggest a drive to Mt Gravatt.

Basically you use a converter like this

I dont believe the conversion is the problem.
His problem is that his means of playing Hi8 tapes is "long gone".
Once he cam play the tapes then he can use any of the methods of
conversion mentioned in this thread.

Thanks to all who replied. Yes, the means of playing the tapes are are long
gone. However, there are is at least one place I contacted here in Brisbane,
that can copy contents of each tape onto DVD- around $39.95 per DVD+GST.
