Canon 70-200 USM Lseries f2.8 or f4 ??

Have decided to go with the Canon 30D I asked ideas on in an earlier
thread..(can get it for slightly under 2 grand)... feels good especially
with the add-on BG-E2 battery holder and will go with the Canon 70-200 USM L
series lens and save around $1000 by not going with the Image
Stabiliser....only trouble I have now is deciding whether to go for the f2.8
or f4....for general photography and sport and fast action around car and
horse racing tracks.....friends say the f4 is fine and for another $1000 the
f2.8 is overkill.

Any pointers and tips would be much appreciated from all you wise people out
there.

The 2.8 is nice, I have one, but I think that if you're wondering if you
need it, you probably don't need it.

"sport and fast action around car and horse racing tracks" suggests the
f/2.8 to me.
