Expected delivery mid October says Fletchers in Canberra. That will make me
happy. :-)

According to C R Kennedy's website, they are now due November.

He said he was talking to them last week and they indicated mid Oct then,
doesn't really matter which but would make sense to say later and be able to
deliver earlier anyway. Said it was probable only 150 cameras for Oz in
first shipment, thats not a lot of cameras.

Its a lot for Nikon brand. The first D200 batch that arrives , I think it
was only 30 of em.
So 150 for a brand that's making a come back to the market, its a lot.

The D200 is a lot more expensive, this is aimed at a much wider market, how
many D70,70s,80's did they bring in?

G'day Pete I also live in Canberra and am very interested in the new pentax
K10D. Did you order it with a lens package and if so what type? What price
are Fletcher's quoting you?

Cheers

I have ordered body only, I already have a 16-45mm F4.0 ED AL lens, a 18-50,
18-55, 28-105, 55-200, 50mm F1.8 and a 70-300 so don't need more lenses for
a bit. They are not sure of the price at the moment, expecting about $1,400.
If I had no other lenses I would think seriously about the 16-45mm Pentax
lens, not fast but very sharp, expect to pay around $600 for one, the Sigma
18-50mm F2.8 would also work nicely on this camera I think.

Not tempted by any of the new lenses announced today or in the roadmap?

I'm thinking of waiting till next June and buy it with the 60-250 f4 ssm
lens to match the 16-45 I already have as a travel bundle.

Tempted but not available yet. If I was getting another a tele it would
probably be the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8, I already have the Sigma DG APO
70-300mm, not a bad lens if not terribly fast...

Perhaps I could refrase just for you.

Spoke to Fletchers yesterday and they have been taking to Kennedy's about
the new Pentax K10D and it seems they could be available as early as mid
October. I just might get one of these. ;-)

I'm in Canberra too. I ordered a D80 a (long) while ago from Teds and I
suspect you'll be getting your K10D long before I get my Nikon gear.

I hope Nikon run their ship better than Maxwells did.

Those Hong Kong ebay folks are looking more and more tempting each day.

this bloke maybe a bit more secure than HK as you get his warranty
guarantee for the first 12mths and they are in Sydney. Cameras bought in
from Japan

Good if you want Canon or Nikon. :-(

Well the link did refer to the problem in hand - which was ordering a
Nikon from HK - believe me Nikon are no cheaper from HK - plus the
warranty issues with country of purchase digital cameras.

Lets see what the official announcement will be in regards to Nikon from
October 1st - they may have stock and kick start with a fire sale :)

Yes I knew that but sourcing the Pentax gear can be a bit heartbreaking
(just a little) sometimes seeing huge numbers and ranges of the Canon and
Nikon accessories and no Pentax equivalents, even aftermarket gear. :-(

I am happy to get the lower risk lower priced items from places like HK but
as you say warranty claims could be a nightmare.

All in all, the competition at the moment is the best it has ever been with
a swag of very good cameras coming out at the same time, I know at least one
Canon person that is very keen to have a look at my K10D when I get it, I
really don't think he will jump ship from his 20D but there is a couple of
features he would really, really like. :-)
