Hi all -
Does anyone know anything about the Southbank fireworks tonight? Ie -
When?
Reckon Kangaroo PT is a go, or does that get too crowded to be much
use...
They'd be the best ones to photograph I'd assume.
Cheers,
Michael

You know what always puzzles me about fireworks displays?..
Why couldn't they occasionally schedule them carefully so there was
still a just a little bit of dusk light in the sky... would make for
so much better photographs! And you'd be able to get the kids home to
bed earlier, etc... (O:

It was a beautiful sunset up there too. I got there just too late to
get some photos of that.

How did you go.... any luck?
MY5TMAN - 27 Jan 2006 04:55 GMT
Hmm. Yeah, a few that I was happy with.
No really spectacular ones. I wasn't thrilled with the angle. Most
fireworks photos that weren't too crowded [for my taste] only showed
two 'bursts'. That screws with my idea of the symmetry of odd numbers.
Then I noticed that there were some nice reflections happening on the
buildings , so I tried to capture that. It looks as though I'll have to
enhance that with PS2 though. They didn't seem to come through too
strongly.
But it's practise all the same! And I didn't go away unhappy.
I did get a bit wound-up after googling most of the afternoon working
out what settings others had used and variations that were suggested.
[I tend to expect the world after a few 'chance' good photos *grin*].
And I stopped thinking clearly when I realised that the tripod was
rocking slightly when I was pressing the shutter - as the ground wasn't
even enough *laughs*. But it's only the 2nd time I've gone out for
fireworks. Have to be a little easy on myself.
Focussing to infinity still bugs me. I don't know if it's my eyes or
the viewfinder [Eos 300D] or the lenses. Perhaps some photos are coming
out soft due to technique/ average tripod as well. But I still hate
night-time focussing!
I just got a ND filter that I haven't had a chance to use [still
haven't] but was surprised to read that someone reccommended using that
with fireworks. That intrigued me...
I've only looked at the photos in Picasa and done some quick easy edits
to send off to friends. Am really new to CS2 so feeling my way in there
cautiously. The interface looks different than the Elements I played
with... I'll be googling/ buying some beginners references ASAP
*laughs*
I have goLive and think that's what I'd use to post things on the web?
Will be looking at doing that and automating the process as much as
possible[?] in the next month. I guess like everyone else, I want
feedback on what I can do better and what I've done well :D
