Beware of Andrew Hyde of St. Kilda Melbourne. He advertised a camera package
for sale. I paid for the package, but did not receive the promised manual,
USB cable and software which was advertised as part of the package. Andrew
refuses to reply to my emails.
Don't get caught by this low-life.

On newsgroups - I replied to his ad on aus.computers.used
Alby Onn - 21 Jan 2006 01:26 GMT
Sorry, read that as:-
aus.ads.for sale.computers.used
on 10/01/06
Also, I emailed him before I bought the package , for listing of items
included and he replied that apart from camera, case and memory card that
there was USB cable, manual and software.
All I received was the camera, case and memory card. I have emailed him
several times since but with no response.
Joe - 21 Jan 2006 03:16 GMT
How long have you waited for replies?. Is it not possible he may be away and
not read his email. Unless you are positively sure he is avoiding replying
to you (such as seeing another ad or correspondence sent since you contacted
him) I would allow 2 weeks if you havent already before resorting to black
listing him.

The simple fact that he did not send the promised items is very suspicious.
This, backed up by non response to several emails, convinces me that
something smells fishy in Denmark (or in this case, St Kilda).

Again, what time frame are you classing as 'non-response' ?

You may have opened yourself to legal repercussions if you have jumped the
gun on this.

You're not all that good with gender identification I take it?.

And on what basis would I be able to differentiate, given the contents of
the relevant posts. Have I missed something?

I dont see what benefit he would have keeping  a USB cable, camera specific
software and manual. The USB Cable is worth a couple dollars, the software
and manual likely downloadable from the manufacturers web site. If he was
going to scam you surely he wouldnt have sent the camera, or he could have
sent you a brick.

Instead of making what may well be baseless accusations spammed across
dozens of newsgroups - try contacting him at RMIT if it is the same person.

Heh - there are times when good (read 'fast') servers are not such a good
thing... such as this situation :)
Hopefully it didn't escape too much further into the wilds of Usenet.

Yeah, for someone lecturing others on legalities it would seem to indicate
the depth of their knowledge on such things.

just because someone dosent send some minor parts of a camera package
(all of which you can get for free (manual/sotware) or for a couple of
dollars (usb cable) dosent mean their a scammer. And it doesnt mean you
should go smearing their name with such strong language. If you had any
brains you would have got his phone number and other contact address
BEFORE handing over the cash. idiot.

Seeing as how the ad included the missing items, I do think some degree of
scamming happened.
For one thing, the software that is included with this model camera is not
available on the net - I searched high and low to no avail. The manual is
available, but is well over 120 pages long and is an expense to download and
print. And the USB cable is actually $12 for that model camera.
So shouting idiot only rebounds on to you!!!
