Hiya
Yeah, ive had to hunt hi n low for one of these , and as it seems australia
wont be getting the DS2 (as apparently pentax cant do it cheap enuff here
here)
we are stuck with the DL , which seems good and gets good reviews , i
thought i'd sooner get a DS for what turned out to be just about the same
amount of money.
why pentax DS , main reason reason i already have 3 pentax lenses (28-70,
35-80, 200-300) that suit my old pentax Z-70 35mm slr i have have , so i
thought i'd got with the pentax. PLus I used to have a old k1000 which was
great fun. The pentax is cheaper than say the canon 350d, nikon d70
althought each of them is a good camera as well.
if i won lotto i think i'd be happy with a canon d20 and some nice lenses ,
but i didnt ...
ps how do you find your DS , and are you on the pentax slr forum ???
cheers dave
pS many thanks to petepc for putting me on to them

The DS is a fine camera with many strengths... the pentaprism, the
rather good 11 point AF, RAW is excellent but cumbersome for workflow.
JPEG is not as bad as people say.
With the new 2.0 Firmware it is even better with fully continuous AF.
It is great on 2,500mAh Nimh batteries.
I find pictures to be absolutely marvellous on my Sigma 24-70 f2.8 -
very acceptable on the stock 18-125...
I find the lack of battery grip disturbing though.
I know of no Aust. based pentax forum.
I have found that people who have the DS are usually quite fanatical
about it.
