Hi

I am selling my jetski to buy a Canon Digital SLR and until recently
had my eye set on the Canon 5D.

I spent the last weekend in a houseboat with jetskis and took photos
with a friend's Canon 20D of people on the back of a tube being towed
by my brother's jetski. I found the 5 frames per second very handy. In
fact so handy that I have been thinking about buying the 20D over the
5D for this reason alone. I am hoping to sell my jetski soon and if I
do, I would most likely wait until April to buy my digital SLR so I can
buy the camera tax free as I will be going overseas.

I have a 28-135 IS lens, 70-200 f2.8 lens and a 16-35 f2.8 Canon lenses
that I use with my Canon EOS 3. If there was only a digital back that I
could slap on my Canon EOS 3, I would be one of the first to buy this
digital back as the EOS 3 is an awesome camera and in my opinion, there
isn't a Canon digital camera at a reasonable price that is as well
featured or performs as good EOS 3. The 1DS Mark IIN is just way too
heavy.

I like the Specs of the Nikon D200, but I am not prepared to change my
camera brand. Does anybody know if there will be a replacement for the
20D in the near future? Or if a firmware upgrade will eventually enable
an improvment to the Frames Per Seconds on the 5D. The 3 Frames per
second is just too slow for my liking. Will it be possible in future to
buy a digital back for my EOS 3?

Thank you

There are rumours that Canon will introduce the successor to the 20D
early next year. It may be worth waiting just a few more months.

This might be a stupid question, but can't you ramp up the FPS in the 5D et
al by turning down the res? Would make sense I'd have thought...isn't that
why the D2H only has a 4MP sensor?

Buy now and enjoy as there is very little savings in GST as it still has
to be declared on return.

IF you are snapping sport, 20D + grip is the way to go.
5 fps speed is a God sent [unless you can afford the weight 1D Mk IIn as
typed] + the 1.6x crop factor give you the extra mile coverage [unless you
are buying a 400 /2.8 with the 5D also]

5D is marketed less to sport shooter and more for wedding photog imo.
and the speed I believe is more a mechanical rather than software [unless
they use the same shutter mechanism and lock the mechanism]

btw .. do remember , 20D can only have 6 buffer for RAW [and D200 has 27]
