Taking photos next to the freeway: I think I'm in trouble with the law!

Well, not quite. I found an old shack next to a freeway and couldn't
see any way to gain access via back roads, so I pulled directly off the
freeway. When I was taking photos a car pulled up in the emergency
lane, a guy got out momentarily then sat in his car for a couple of
minutes before driving off. I guess it was an unmarked cop car doing a
rego check on mine.

I checked and the fine for stopping on a freeway in Victoria is
apparently two penalty points. :) If I'm lucky he was just checking to
make sure it wasn't a stolen+abandoned car.

Hopefully it was worth it, not every day you see this next to a
freeway, mere minutes from suburbia:

The new freeway has brought this beautiful shack and at least 3 others
into clear view, but at a cost... aerial photos show a (modern) house
on the same property before the freeway was built. It's no longer there.

Good call! :)

To the OP, very nice photo.  It could do with slight cropping of the
non-existent sky, but definately doesn't look like its anywhere near a city.

Also have a look at google earth, but keep in mind that currency of images
can be anywhere up to 3 years old.

That's how I discovered that there had been more than just the shack
before the freeway existed...

I've roughly superimposed the freeway line over the google earth photo.
You can see that it runs directly over a modern looking tiled/non rusty
metallic roofline (hard to see in this composite pic), plus a dam.
There's another outbuilding which also seems to have disappeared -
there's just landscaped dirt there now. The grey line is a wildlife
fence which runs just in front of the shack, cutting through the old
fencing line that you can see in my original photo. There are still
bits of old timber and other relics lying on the freeway side of the
fence.

I find this stuff pretty fascinating, which is why I'm starting a web
site about it. :)

It looks like an old shearing shed to me, not a house.
