Folks,

In frustration, I turn to you all for advice...

Panasonic FZ-30 is sitting on the desk, with a number of images in RAW
format lurking on the memory card.

Paint Shop Pro 8 keeps bringing up a dialog box asking for header size,
pixels wide and high, and a number of other details that I dont seem to be
able to find.

No doubt the Panasonic RAW format will be different to any others...

Software supplied (some ARCSOFT products, along with a few Panasonic items)
doesnt seem to have anything that does the conversion of the RAW images.

Any pointer son where I might look for the relevant file info to get PSP 8
to import these images??

Bugger it; I might have another scotch...

Cheers,

RawShooter is the developer of choice for may digital Photographers. It
may or may not handle the Panasonic images. Up till now RAW in Panasonic
terms was TIFF. I wouldn't be surprised if the disc which came with your
camera actually has a RAW developer - some call a converter but seeing
as RAW sensor data is not an image as such, I can't see how you can
convert it!

Second to the earlier reply...
You have a program called "Photo Fun Studio" on the camera's CD. Use
this to develop the RAW image and then edit it in your favorite editor.
It seems no one yet supports the Panasonic RAW file format but you can
expect that to change pretty soon.

Pix on Canvas,

Many thanks; the bloody PDF help file hadnt installed, and the conversion
process isnt very obvious.  I found the pdf file, and sure enough, there is
a section on RAW conversion.

Thanks again; I was pulling my hair out. I think I will get something a bit
better down the track, but this will allow me to experiment with it
beforehand.

Rod,

What you can do is use the freeware program called dcraw. It is able to
convert the FZ30 RAW files to a more usable format. You can download a
copy of dcraw from:

 http://www.lebsanft.org/blog/?p=285

Note that dcraw is a command line program, but it can easily be
executed in such as way as to process all the RAW files in a given
folder.

A member of the Panasonic_FZ20 group at Yahoo! Groups has reported
having good results with dcraw using the following command:

 dcraw -2 -a -n P100xxxx.RAW

This ouputs an 8-bit PPM file of the same name/location, with automatic
white balance, and supposedly it will not clip blown highlights.

Good luck and let us know your experiences.
