Hi Folks,

I think I am taking the plunge and buying a Nikon D70 w/ a Nikkor 18-70 DX.

What do people here think, would the price drop in time for Xmas or is this
the low as we can hope for in the next 6 months or so.

I also seem to be getting conflicting information regarding the end date of
the cashback offer.  Is the end date 28th February 2005 as stated on the
maxwell.com.au or 31st Dec 2004 as claimed by a retailer (2nd hand info
though).  My guess is Feb 05, but does this depend on the batch etc.

Oh yeah... If anybody has any prices esp from non on-line shops, please
post/email them.

Thanks
-Xi

I think the retailers would be insane to drop prices before christmas when DSLRs
are so popular.

cash back is valid to end of Feb, and they most probably wont drop the
price.

No logical reason why they would drop prices now, so close to xmas.
Id hold off until after xmas myself... more potential for haggling, unless
you really need it urgently.

I think that Vanbar have the D70 and 18-70mm lens kit for about $1998 or
something like that. Check their web site to confirm.

$2K seems to be the going rate, in fact a friend got a D70 today from Vanbar
for just under $2k (not including the $200 rebate).  I think I will hold on
my purchase till after X-mas.

Thanks to all who replied

I recently bought the following for $2050.00 incl GST, ex cashback:

- Nikon D70 body
- 18-70mm lens
- Spare Nikon brand battery
- UV Filter
- Lowepro case

That was about the best I could do. I don't think I should say where I
got this deal, but all I can say is that if most places don't give you
a similar deal just keep trying other places until someone says yes.
That's what I did.

Hope this helps.

I got mine from Vanbar shortly after it was released and it was $1998 back
then.
