Hi,

I have bought a Pentax spotmatic,sp which has no battery. as you may
know the Mercury battery for this camera is discontinued. I have
searched and found several places on the web, f.eksempel here:
http://www.photoethnography.com/ClassicCameras/index-frameset.html?AsahiPentaxSp
otmaticSPII.html~mainFrame

they mention this battery as possible substitute:
1.55v silver oxide Energizer E387S
I have found this ebay auctioh which seems to sell the same battery.
Is it right. can I buy this battery and use it on Spotmatic sp?

 I think that's a 44 not a 387s. If IIRC the 44 is a little smaller. You'll
need a little rubber ring to fit around the battery. Check and make sure
about the size. Too big won't fit the camera. Too small and you can manage
something. The 387s should be a perfect fit if you can find it. At least if
IIRC.

Hey, great camera. It will accept any battery that will fit from 1.3v to
1.6 without damage and the battery is only for the match needle meter
which is OK but a hand held will be a lot more benificial for you and the
sunny 16 rule. According to information from Gene Poon from Spotmatic
discussion group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spotmatic) such 1.35V
voltage cells can be replaced in the Spotmatic series cameras with any
matching 1.5V battery (silver oxide type are good). That's because
original SP, SPII, SPIIa, SP500, SP1000 all use a bridge circuit where
the meter measures the balance between the two legs of the bridge. Both
legs of the bridge would be equally affected by any "normal" voltage
variations. SPF uses a dual coil meter, the two halves equally affected
by any voltage variations.

Tanks for your replies, I searched more and found them on this page in
UK:

I found this shop very well assorted with reasonable prices, at least
for people like me who live in super expensive Norway. This, for
further references.

The Spotmatics all used a "bridge circuit," that was not dependent upon
precise battery voltage to work properly.  The replacement that I have used
is the 1.5 volt silver battery: "PX 400 S"    Some camera stores carry them
in stock, but I have found the Special Order Service at Radio Shack to be
convenient, cheap and fast.

You can order them in person at your local Radio Shack, pay for them right
at the counter, and have them ship it to you from their National Parts
Warehouse, without having to go through the hassle of bidding on eBay and
then paying sometimes high shipping charges.

I have not checked this lately, but you may also be able to order them on
their web site, if you'd prefer not to have to leave your home.  You may
want to check possibility that out.

The last time I ordered "PX 400 S" batteries from Radio Shack, their Stock #
was CNB-387S and their RSU # was 11608452.  That information should direct
their salesclerk to the proper item in their parts database.

The batteries I received were made in Switzerland, and were branded
"Renata."  The Renata battery number was 387S.  It took only 3 days for them
to arrive.

Radio Shack is reliable and you can count on fast and accurate shipping.

Now, if you are looking for a battery for the later model Spotmatic-F, that
body took a Varta V625U, and it was still available as an in-stock item in
Radio Shack stores, last time I checked.
